Welcome Address to Participants in the International Intellectual Property Forum Expopriority’2009. Evgeny Primakov, President Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

It is getting more obvious that the human intellect becomes one of the major productive forces of the 21^st century. It is the human intellect that ensures innovative development, and creates goods and services, which we did not have yesterday but cannot live without today.  Therefore, all things considered, we can say that it is in charge of our striving for the better quality and harmony of life as well as achievement of this quality. It is clear that the legal protection of intellectual property is a matter of great importance all over the world.  

The International Intellectual Property Forum, launched this year by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Expocentre, aims not only to confirm Russia’s adherence to the Paris Convention on the Protection of Industrial Property but also to work out mechanism for protection of intellectual property taking into account intensification of its commercial use.

The Forum will feature discussions on the issue that is very important for both innovative companies and individual inventors: using direct exhibition marketing of their latest developments to reduce time necessary for their implementation into manufacture and market launch.

I am positive that both the Forum and the Exhibition will enable everyone involved to make considerable contributions to development of the Russian national system of legal protection of intellectual property, will promote Russia’s integration into the global high technology market, and also will create opportunities for expansion of international cooperation in the field of high technologies.

Let me wish the Forum participants fruitful discussions, success in work and accomplishment of the Forum goals.
