EXPOPRIORITY’2009: first results of the forum for innovations

EXPOPRIORITY’2009, the 1st International Forum on Intellectual Property, co-organized by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Expocentre, has successfully completed its work.

Expocentre that is always open to innovations launched a pilot project that comprised a congress on intellectual property and an exhibition for the latest developments in the field of science and technology. The list of participants included 195 companies, enterprises, organizations and individual inventors from Hungary, Jordan, the Republic of South Africa, Russia and Ukraine.

The Forum event programme comprised plenary sessions held as part of the International Intellectual Property Congress on 8-9 December. The events on December 10 included a series of round table discussions on Intellectual Property Protection in the Field of Customs Regulations, Trademark Protection and Regional Branding and Export Control over Dual-Use Goods, and a training seminar on Communication on the Internet for Innovations Promotion.  The total number of events delegates exceeded 600. The Forum was attended by over 1,000 professionals in total.

Though the co-located Exhibition for the Latest Scientific and Technological Developments was complementing, it attracted a lot of innovation developers.

For the first time ever the exhibitors received Certificates of Exhibiting that enable them to get a grace period of six months from the exhibition opening date to file a patent application. According to UFI recommendations the Exhibition comprised a Consultations Area where the congress delegates and exhibitors could consult patent attorneys and customs lawyers. This sort of consulting activity will be carried out at other industry exhibitions held by Expocentre.

EXPOPRIORITY’2009 was accompanied by a series of contests. An official award ceremony to honor the winners took place in the Alley of Brands, an area for official ceremonies, on December 9. The list of awards included 2 golden medals from the World Intellectual Property Organization, 8 medals from the event organizers, 10 certificates from the All-Russia Society of Inventors and Rationalizatoirs as well as various awards and prizes within the Zolotnik All-Russia Contest and those instituted by the Belgian Chamber of Inventors.

EXPOPRIORITY’2009 aroused great interest. The further development of the project will contribute to extending practices of temporary legal protection of intellectual property for the purposes of Article 11 of Paris Convention on Intellectual Property, thus developing direct marketing of innovations.

The second edition of the Forum that will be held annually takes place at Expocentre Fairgrounds on 7-9 December 2010.
