Draw of investments is still a big problem in the majority of Russian regions. Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev has recently mentioned the necessity to improve the investment climate in Russia.
Exhibition and convention activities are a unique tool to promote products and services, establish business contacts, facilitate trade and cooperation. They stimulate regional economy boosting consumer demand thus attracting direct investments. This country’s exhibition industry is tightly connected with the majority of industries; it has its own infrastructure, facilities and personnel. Exhibitions and fairs create important information space, shape significant financial flows, provide market mobility and bring additional revenues to budgets of all levels.
Exhibition and convention activities are one the priorities of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as regional trade chambers. Chairman of the CCI RF Sub-Committee on Investment Policy D.O. Chukhontsev spoke about how to use exhibitions and fairs to draw investments into Russian regions and problems facing regional chambers regarding this issue.
Regional representatives – Director General of Nizhegorodskaya Yarmarka V.N. Barulin and President of the Dmitrov Chamber of Commerce and Industry V.A. Logachyov – spoke about problems facing regional exhibition venues and development prospects of the exhibition industry in Russian regions. They noticed that both federal and regional governments underestimated opportunities to attract investments that exhibitions and fairs offered.
Over 10 years Expocentre has successfully hosted the Ladya Fair. This event is a significant contribution to revival and support for Russian folk arts and crafts. G.A. Drozhzhin, Member of the Presidential Council on Culture and Art, Board Chairman of the Russian Handicraft and Art Association, spoke about development of this project. Ladya is a telling example of an event that attracts attention to the industry’s problems and looks for their solutions.
Exhibitions have to become a powerful marketing tool for rapid introduction of innovations. At the same time exhibitors face an issue of legal protection of their industrial property showcased at such events. Galina Kalinina, Head of Expocentre’s NewExpoTechnologies Department, made a presentation “Consolidation of Intellectual Potential – a Factor of Exhibition Investment Attractiveness”. Today Expocentre is the only exhibition company in Russia that issues certificates about demonstration of innovations at exhibitions to provide their legal protection.
Other speakers included L.S. Smorodova, Managing Director of RUEF – the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs; A.K. Zhukov, Director General of RusCom IT Systems OOO who spoke about exhibition audit; E.S. Romaskevich, Director General of ExpoGlobus Services who spoke about Internet technologies used in the exhibition business.
At the end of the Conference a resolution with recommendations on how to increase efficiency of exhibitions and fairs was passed.
