The 14th Russian Conference on the Alcoholic Market – AlcoCongress 2019 and 5th Wine Forum held as part of the supporting program of the Prodexpo 2019 international exhibition traditionally gathered together representatives of all segments of the alcohol market – brewers, winemakers, and distillers. The question addressed this time was the medium-term development of the market.

The head of the AlcoCongress organising committee and the Alcoexpert analytical group, Yury Yudich, underlined the importance of the events which raised topical issues of the alcohol market.

The alcohol market has lately seen a lot of initiatives, the head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service’s Controlling and Financial Department, Vladimir Mishelovin, said. “We are confident that certain regional restrictions and bans on alcohol trade are damaging consumers and regional budgets. They also harm civilized competition. Ideally, we should have alcohol trade regulatory standards for all regions which should be approved at the federal level,” he said.

The AlcoCongress participants discussed a forecast for market sectors including beer and wine made of imported material, Russian wine with geographic indications, and strong alcohol. Retail trade and import of alcohol were a separate item on the agenda. The participants also considered legal aspects and digital marking of alcoholic beverages. In the end of the congress, representatives of Russian regions shared their best practices and expressed hope they would be implemented at the federal level.

In conclusion, the AlcoCongress participants reassured the government and society of their readiness to grow and develop on the basis of high social responsibility and strict but fair and optimal regulation.
