Ladya 2022. The Winter Fairytale, the 32nd Exhibition for Russian Arts and Crafts, opened today at Expocentre Fairgrounds.

More than 1,500 crafts organisations, creative associations, individual craftsmen and artisans from 76 regions of Russia, as well as from Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan take part in this year's winter exhibition on an area of over 6,000 sq. m. 

Ladya is held twice a year on New Year's Eve and International Women's Day. It is organised by the Russian Handcraft and Art Association with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Russian Cultural Foundation, and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

On behalf of EXPOCENTRE AO, the co-organiser of the exhibition, Nikolay Gusev, First Deputy Director General, warmly congratulated the exhibitors and numerous visitors on its opening. He noted with satisfaction that the venue of EXPOCENTRE has been the venue of the Ladya exhibition for almost 20 years.   

The opening ceremony was conducted by Gennady Drozhzhin, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Handcraft and Art Association. It was attended by Inna Svyatenko, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, Svetlana Zhurova, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Mitin, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Roman Teryushkov, State Duma Deputy, Sergey Makeev, representative of Transneft PAO, and Nadezhda Babkina, People's Artist of Russia. 

Today Ladya 2022. The Winter Fairytale traditionally introduces new best products of the world famous crafts and folk art centres, such as Khokhloma and Gorodets, Rostov Finift, Gzhel, Kadomsky Veniz, Vologda, Elets and Mikhailovsky lace, Kizlyar, Kubachi, Zhostovo, Torzhok gold embroidery, Palekh, Kholui and many others. 

The exhibition involves not only craft companies and craftsmen who work individually, but also educational institutions that train staff for craftsmen enterprises. 

The exhibition was formed according to the sectoral principle: salons of porcelain and ceramics, lacquer painting, artistic wood and bone carving, metal painting, artistic weaving and carpet weaving, artistic metal and leather processing, crystal and glass, etc. 

52 regions of Russia have organised group stands. Such group stands allow not only to present all the diversity of traditional crafts and trades of the region, but also provide an opportunity to present the best tourist routes, combining tourist complexes based on existing enterprises of crafts, museum and exhibition centres, platforms for interactive tourist programmes. 

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive cultural and conference programme. The Tale on a Mammoth Tusk Festival of Bone Carvers of Russia will take place. Masters from the leading bone carving centres in 16 regions - Yakutia, Chukotka, Taymyr and others - will present their work. 

‘The City of Craftsmen’ will reveal to guests of the exhibition the secrets of their professional skills. Leading artists and craftsmen will demonstrate ancient craft techniques: painting on wood, fabric and metal, pottery, bone, stone and wood carving, toy modelling, forging, lacemaking, and jewellery art.

For young visitors, a children's area has been set up, featuring workshops on various types of crafts and trades. 

The exhibition will also feature roundtables, panel discussions, and consultation platforms on the creation of associations of craftsmen and artisans in the regions, the tourism potential of traditional craft sites, and the protection of intellectual property. 

Ladya 2022. The Winter Fairytale runs until December 18.
