The 23rd edition of the International Exhibition for Equipment, Instruments and Tools for the Metalworking Industry, Metalloobrabotka 2023, has opened at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds.

Metalloobrabotka is Russia’s largest trade show of machine tool construction and metalworking, showcasing the advanced developments of domestic and foreign manufacturers of machine tool products. The show is organised by EXPOCENTRE with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This year's edition occupies 40,000 square metres to accommodate leading manufacturers and suppliers of equipment and tools from Belarus, China, Germany, India, Italy, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, and Turkiye. The exhibitors include both long-standing partners and new exhibitors from friendly countries who are ready to replace the Western European companies that have left. Compared to 2022, the numbers of exhibitors have increased by 80% and the exhibition space has increased by 70%.

The show will feature the Belarus and China national pavilions. Companies from India have stepped up their participation. The opening of the Indian stand was attended by Second Secretary of the Embassy of India in Russia Naveen Choudhary, and Director General at the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute – NAMI Fyodor Nazarov.

The Russian regional group stands represent Belgorod, Chelyabinsk, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Penza, Ryazan, Tver, Voronezh and Yaroslavl Oblasts, and Krasnodar Krai.

At the opening ceremony, First Deputy Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO Sergey Selivanov said that Metalloobrabotka 2023 had once again proved that it was the industry’s main trade show in Russia in the field of machine tool construction and metalworking. More than 1,000 companies from 12 countries, 700 of which are Russian enterprises, take part in the show.

Deputy Chair at the Russian Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Konstantin Dolgov stressed that if we do not have domestic high-tech competitive machines, we will not have technological sovereignty. There are things we need to manufacture ourselves and not depend on any countries for that.

Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Mikhail Ivanov read out a welcome address to the participants in Metalloobrabotka 2023 from Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.

Vice-President at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dmitry Kurochkin said that during the week there will be a lot of business related events, and in particular the Chamber will organise the First National Forum on Industrial Cooperation and System Engineering. It will address issues of industrial cooperation not only in the inter-sectoral and regional context, but also at the level of Eurasian industrial cooperation, as well as subcontracting, franchising, and many other issues.

The official opening ceremony was followed by the Plenary Meeting on the Priority Areas for the Development of the Machine Tool Industry, organised by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Industry Project Management Centre, and EXPOCENTRE AO.

Mikhail Ivanov made a key report. He noted that the technological sovereignty of our country undoubtedly depends on the development of the machine tool industry. “Therefore, one of the priority areas of work today is to meet the increased demand for high-tech equipment,” said the Deputy Minister. “The industry has approached this milestone with good results as production has increased by almost half since 2020, and today we produce machine tool products worth more than 60 billion roubles. In 2022 alone, the increase was 25%.”

The plenary session was attended by CEO at RT-Capital Semen Yakubov, CEO at UZTS Yuriy Koval, CEO at Virial Vladimir Rumyantsev, Rector at Stankin Moscow State Technical University Vladimir Serebrenny, Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus Alexander Yefimov, President at the Stankoinstrument Association Georgy Samodurov, and others.
