Leading experts, representatives of authorities and scientific community took part in the 2nd Research Conference in Memory of Igor Lanskoy: Export of Medical Services: Problems and Prospects, held as part of the Year of Science and Technology within Russian Health Care Week at Expocentre Fairgrounds. 

The conference was organised by the Coordinating Centre on Implementing the Federal Project on the Development of Export of Medical Services in partnership with EXPOCENTRE AO.

Moderator Sabina Green, head of the coordinating centre, outlined the main topics for the expert discussion: "We will talk about the quality and safety of medicine in terms of exporting medical services, about the organisation of business processes and organisational features of export, which are also very important. We will talk about analytics and scientific data. We cannot do without the practical experience of our clinics. We will also touch on the topic of problems and the topic of opportunities. 

In his report on basic approaches to the organisation of medical services exports, Arkady Daikhes, Deputy General Director of the Federal Scientific and Clinical Centre for Medical Rehabilitation and Balneology, said that Russia ranks 9th in Europe and 34th in the global ranking for medical tourism development. Our country is also a leader in inbound medical tourism among the CIS countries - Russia accounts for 72% of inbound medical tourism. 

Elena Aksenova, Director of the Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management spoke about scientific and analytical research for the development of exports of medical services.

Representatives of the Fedorov Eye Microsurgery and the National Medical Research Centre for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health Care shared their positive experience in developing exports of medical services. The reports were devoted to management problems and triggers in the development of medical tourism, as well as current opportunities for exporting medical services in Russia. 

During the conference, the following strengths of medical services export development in our country were noted: the development of domestic supply of medical services, a good price-quality ratio, the availability of medical centres providing world-class high-tech medical care, and state incentives for medical services exports. 

Among the weaknesses identified by experts were an underdeveloped health services export infrastructure, a lack of systematic interaction with health representatives in countries with prospects for health services export, language barriers, and a number of other factors.
