State regulations of food quality and safety was a focal point of the conference organised by the Russian Agriculture Ministry, Rosselkhoznadzor, and Agroexposervice as part of the supporting program of the Prodexpo 2019 international exhibition.

Acclaimed agrarian policy expert Sergey Seryogin was the conference moderator. His report addressed the current conditions of agriculture and possibilities of agricultural exports. The task of doubling exports of Russian agricultural products is ambitious: it is necessary not only to increase the output but also to improve state regulation of the agrarian sector, he said, in particular.

The conference participants analysed the tasks of development of wholesale and retail trade in various types of agricultural products, and ways to boost the competitive edge of domestic food products, and their promotion on the global market. The participants discussed higher requirements to quality and safety of dairy, flour, cereal, and other kinds of agricultural products. They also touched upon standardisation as a crucial element of state regulations of quality and safety of food.

The discussion involved representatives of authorities, industry unions and associations, investment companies, banks, and research centres, and leading Russian and foreign experts who were invited to visit the Prodexpo 2019 exhibition and establish dialogue with food producers and retailers.
