The Session on Specialty Chemicals: Import Substitution and Development has taken place within the 9^th Moscow International Chemical Forum at the Khimia 2021 exhibition. The session was organised by the Roshimreaktiv Association, the Russian Chemists Union an EXPOCENTRE AO, and was devoted to the 20-year anniversary of the Roshimreaktiv Association.

"Our session is dedicated to looking from the past to the future. We will discuss the way in which manufacturers of small and medium tonnage chemistry, fine and specialty chemistry, and the way in which those companies that produce laboratory equipment and design unique laboratories for the ever-changing needs of our industry are going," said event moderator Irina Vendilo, Executive Director of the Roshimreaktiv Association.

Viktor Ivanov, President of the Russian Chemists Union, joined the discussion. He spoke about the role of the Roshimreaktiv Association in the development of low-tonnage chemistry. The Association is increasing its production capacity. The Association’s President congratulated all members of the Association on 20 years of effective work and presented a commemorative gift.

“In these challenging times, chemical companies are increasing volumes, looking for new markets, cooperating with each other very actively, interacting and constantly taking advantage of their partners to become stronger and promote themselves more actively. Large players pay attention to low-tonnage chemistry. There are unique companies that go out of their way to create more complex components from their raw materials and offer them to domestic companies. These companies are ready to meet the needs of producers of medium and low-tonnage chemicals” said Irina Vendilo.

Speaking at the session, Mikhail Sutyaginsky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Titan Group AO, Chairman of the Committee on Chemical Industry of the Russian Public Organisation "Business Russia" said that development of low-tonnage chemical production has become an issue of strategic importance. It is necessary to increase the production of medium-tonnage chemistry by 70% by 2030 as compared to 2020. The import substitution programme is working, the speaker stressed.

Representatives of the companies concerned took an active part in the discussion on the prospects for the further development of low-tonnage chemistry.
