The 28th International Exhibition for Paints and Coatings – Interlakokraska 2024, which opened today at EXPOCENTRE, held a session on Import Substitution of Raw Materials. Myth or Reality? The event was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and Ruschem AO with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Chemists Union and the Soyuzkraska Association.

Representatives of major chemical companies attended the session. They discussed the issues of regulatory policy, quality of raw material base, standards, and personnel policy.

Dmitry Semyagin, Editor-in-Chief of RUPEC portal, moderated the event.  On the one hand, he noted in his opening speech, we see good indicators of the industry’s development and production growth, but on the other hand, many expectations and hopes of chemical industry representatives have not been realised or have not been fully realised. What to do in the current situation and how to strengthen this sector of the national economy are the main issues to be discussed at our panel.

Viktor Ivanov, President of the Russian Chemists Union, an industry-wide association of employers, spoke about the advantages of developing companies on the site of Ruschem: while today only 60-70 thousand tonnes of paint and varnish products are made, this number will soon be increased to 120 thousand tonnes. Ruschem is able to provide manufacturers with all the necessary products it makes.

Gennady Averyanov, General Director of the Soyuzkraska Association, described the situation in the industry, including import substitution, and expressed hope that protectionism in the purchase of domestic products will be maintained and their quality will increase as a result.

Marina Bortova, Deputy Director General at Ruschem AO, gave a detailed overview of the Russian chemical production. We must endeavour, she said, to meet all our own needs as fully as possible.

Maria Ivanova, Director General at the Russian Chemists Union, an industry-wide association of employers, spoke about the staffing of the paint and coatings industry.

The session also addressed the issues of production of domestic raw materials for the chemical industry, effective import substitution, control and supervision over the safety of paint and varnish materials and a number of others.
