The 10th Moscow International Chemical Forum has started its work. It is the key event of the conference programme of the Khimia 2022 International Exhibition for Chemical Industry and Science opened today.

The Forum began with the Plenary Discussion on the Technological Sovereignty and Development of the Russian Chemical Industry in the Current Economic Realities. The discussion was organised by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Chemists Union and EXPOCENTRE AO. Victor Ivanov, President of the RCU, moderated the discussion.

Mikhail Ivanov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, presented an overview of the current state of the Russian chemical industry. He stated that today the chemical industry is one of the fastest growing areas in the Russian industrial complex. Its annual growth rate exceeds 6%. The share of chemistry in the processing industries exceeds 12%. It is impossible to imagine practically all sectors of the economy without quality raw materials and highly competitive products of the domestic chemical industry.

Today, even in the face of severe restrictions on both imports and exports of chemical products, the Russian chemical industry is demonstrating resilience, continuing to work with consumers at home and abroad. In the first 8 months of this year, it shipped products worth almost 5.5 trillion rubles, which is almost a third higher than last year's figures for the same period. At the same time, exports have risen by almost 40%. The chemical companies are working hard on a daily basis, introducing new technologies and implementing investment projects. Five projects worth over 26.5 billion rubles have been successfully completed in the industry since the beginning of this year, the deputy minister said.

According to the head of the New People Faction in the State Duma Alexey Nechayev, the state does a lot to support industry enterprises, but sometimes business knows little about state support measures, such as preferential lending for chemical production under the Industrial Development Fund at just 1%. There is a need for closer cooperation between the state, business and industry science, the deputy believes.

The deputy’s opinion was supported by his colleagues: Alexander Mazhuga, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, and Maria Vasilkova, Chairman of the Expert Council for Development of the Chemical Industry under the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade, who reported on the topic "Integrated Territorial Development and Forming New Approaches to Low-Tonnage Chemistry Development".

Mikhail Nikulin, General Director of Gazpromneft - Industrial Innovations, Natalia Ermakova, Managing Director of Sberbank, Mikhail Sutyaginsky, a well-known businessman, Chairman of the Committee on Chemical Industry of the Russian public organisation Business Russia, Ilya Vorotyntsev, Acting Rector of the Mendeleev Russian Chemical Technology University, other prominent representatives of business, academia and industry companies actively participated in the plenary discussion.
