A member of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Tatiana Gigel, visited the Mebel 2022 exhibition. In a conversation with journalists she said:

- The 33rd Mebel International Exhibition opened at Moscow's EXPOCENTRE with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, the Union of Russian Designers, and under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mebel 2022 has traditionally brought together the world's leading manufacturers, designers, and interior design professionals to showcase new collections and the best examples of furniture fashion, for effective business communication and business development, and for finding new partners and markets.

This is the 7th time I have been to this representative exhibition. And the first thing that immediately struck the eye was that among its exhibitors (and there are now more than 660, from 12 countries), the dominant position is occupied by Russian enterprises, whereas previously the products of foreign manufacturers dominated.

Russian companies Angstrem, Lubimy Dom, Olmeko, Silva, Bazhenov Brothers’ Furniture, Andrea, Maria, Miassmebel, MK Style, TriYa, Kronospan, Soyuz-M and many others stand out among the exhibitors. With the financial support of regional business development centres, this year companies from the Belgorod, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Moscow, Chelyabinsk regions, the Krasnodar Territory and, pleasantly surprisingly, the Republic of Buryatia are taking part.

In addition, there are products from 11 other Russian regions on the group stands. Conference programme meetings, panels and conventions are taking place in several pavilions and congress halls at Expocentre Fairgrounds. An interesting project will be the Design Hour, organised in conjunction with the Archdialog agency. This time the focus will be on Russian design, its identity and its promotion in a competitive environment.

With Sergey Radchenko, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Angstrem, we looked at his company's exhibition stand with great interest, and in total I looked at more than 20 stands. Domestic furniture samples at all our stands compare favourably with foreign ones: they have excellent design, are more comfortable and, by and large, are more customary for us.

Russian furniture is also interesting because it takes into account all the tastes of our consumers, and most importantly, it is designed for all social groups, for different levels of income. And, of course, when you see such magnificent examples of Russian furniture, you feel proud of our country and understand that we will succeed in everything. We can be first not only in space, but also in the industries that have traditionally been developed in Russia.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all our companies taking part in this year's exhibition. Yes, it is a costly participation, but well worth it! Their presence at the show only confirms that they remain true patriots of the timber industry, in which the furniture industry must become and, we can be sure, will definitely become a real driver in the whole system of the Russian timber industry.

Talking to visitors to the exhibition, she said that they liked the democratic style of the stands. All of the furniture samples can be touched and assessed for themselves. Everyone noted the good choice of products and the price level, which is easy to navigate based on their family budget. And, importantly, visiting such an exhibition fosters a sense of taste and a desire to get acquainted with domestic products more often, which means that the course taken towards import substitution is yielding real results.
