At the beginning of the meeting, Maxim Fateev, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, addressed the participants by video link.
The main topic of the meeting was the role of congress and exhibition activities in the development of the Russian regions economy. The participants considered issues related to improvement of specialised congress and exhibition infrastructure in regions, first steps in implementation of the road map for support and strategic development of exhibition, trade fair and congress activities until 2025, the role of territorial Chamber of Commerce and Industry as an accelerator of congress and exhibition activities and business activity in the region, and other issues.
Alexey Vyalkin presented the current situation of the congress and exhibition industry in Russia in his keynote speech. Today there are about three thousand companies operating in the industry, half of them are individual entrepreneurs. At the same time, 80% of their revenues come from Moscow and the Moscow region. This is primarily due to the weak congress and exhibition structure in the regions. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnodar, Mineralnye Vody, Novosibirsk and Ufa have the largest specialised exhibition complexes, which account for 80% of all exhibition venues in the country.
Issues of the industry development in the regions have always been of great importance, continued Alexey Vyalkin. Statistics show that most of the business events are concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The volume of the capital's congress and exhibition services market is 73%, while the share of all other subjects of the Russian Federation is only 27%. EXPOCENTRE has always assisted in the development of the regional exhibition business and has developed guidelines for the design, construction and operation of model regional exhibition and congress centres.
In addition, EXPOCENTRE AO has signed cooperation agreements with a number of regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry to support and develop the exhibition industry.
Participants in the meeting stressed that congress and exhibition activities are a driver of development of territories, a tool to promote Russian products and services, increase business and investment activity, and promote import substitution. For regional manufacturers and service providers, participation in major congress and exhibition events is an effective tool for finding new partners and entering new markets.
The meeting discussed the opportunities and benefits that the region can gain from investing in the exhibition industry and hosting federal and international exhibitions, congresses and forums. The role of the state in this matter was discussed. They gave bright, successful examples of congress and exhibition activities in Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok.
