Russian Week of High Technologies is a major annual exhibition and convention project that unites several leading exhibitions, forums and conferences in the IT, telecommunications, navigation and telematics sectors. The Week brings together highly skilled professionals in the fields of digital technology, cloud research, artificial intelligence, communications and navigation. Among them are the developers and potential consumers of technologies, which are used to ensure the national security. 

This year professional visitors highly appreciated the showcased developments and equipment. Many of them held important business meetings, established new business contacts and expressed their wish to participate in next year's Week.

At the end of the Week opening ceremony, the Sviaz 2021 postal card cancellation ceremony took place. The card features the official logo of the exhibition and elements of its corporate identity. The 1,600-copy stamped card became a memorable gift for exhibitors and visitors.

Sviaz 2021 

The central event of Russian Week of High Technologies 2021 became the 33rd edition of the International Exhibition for Information and Communications Technologies – Sviaz 2021.

The exhibition showcased the best Russian developments in various areas of the digital economy and introduced advanced achievements of the foreign participants, opening new markets and opportunities for foreign communications manufacturers.

Show highlights 

A special place in the showcase was reserved to the Salon of Electronic Components for Telecommunication. Its participants are NPK Desten, Symanitron-Electronics, Radiofizika, Teleconta, PKK Milandr, Vostochny Potok, etc.

The latest developments in the navigation industry were showcased at Navitech 2021 Salon by Keysight Technologies (the USA), Next Mobile (Russia), Teltonika (Lithuania), Technoton (Belarus), Ricom (Russia), Streamax Technology (China), and ISS-Reshetnev Company (Russia). 

This year, the Russian Ministry of Defence took part in Russian Week of High Technologies. At Sviaz 2021 it presented 20 innovative projects of the ERA Military Innovative Technopolis.

This included an automated system for scientific and technical expertise, and a system for authentication of electronic documents, as well as the latest solutions in medical diagnostics and recognition of coronavirus diseases. At the Machine Learning Centre based at Technopolis, the research company operators are engaged in implementing neural networks in the interests of the Ministry of Defence and the civilian population, but are primarily putting artificial intelligence into the Russian army. ERA conducts research in informatics and computer science, technical vision and pattern recognition, robotics, automated control systems and telecommunications technology. 

A special negotiation programme for equipment and technology procurement professionals, the Business Guide, was held for the second time at the Sviaz 2021 exhibition. Buyers were able to see and evaluate the range of exhibiting companies live.

Conference programme 

More than 15 events with over 250 speakers were included in the conference programme of Russian Week of High Technologies.

One of the main events of the conference programme was the Plenary Session: Transformation of the Telecom Industry: Moving at High Speed of the Sviaz Forum 2021. The event was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and RBC Media Holding, with the support of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Russian State Duma Committee on Education and Science, the Expert Council on Scientific and Technological Development and Intellectual Property of the Russian State Duma Committee on Education and Science, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, Roskomnadzor – the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media. It was devoted to the government’s business support measures, export capabilities of Russian telecom equipment, localisation of production, and import substitution in Russia. 

The session was moderated by Vladimir Kononov, State Duma Deputy and Chairman of the NTI Expo Organising Committee, and Anna Gara, host of RBC TV channel. The reports were delivered by Maxim Parshin, Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, Vasily Shpak, Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Alexey Samarin, Head of the Moscow Information Technology Department, Managing Director of Sberbank's Telecom and Media Customer Coverage Ivan Sinchilo. The discussion was also attended by Alesya Mamchur, the Expert from Rostelecom's Strategic Innovation Centre, Alexey Palamarchuk, Deputy Director of B2G at ER-Telecom Holding, Gulnara Khasyanova, Director General of Telecommunication Technologies Consortium, autonomous non-profit organisation for assistance in development of digital infrastructure, and Alexander Pankov, Vice President for Government Relations at VimpelCom. 

The Sviaz Forum 2021 also included the following thematic sessions: Research and Technology in the Telecom Industry, Satellite Communications: Main Trends, Technology , 5G: on the Digital Tracks, Microelectronics: the Current State and Development Prospects of the Industry.

The central event of the year in the commercial use of satellite navigation technologies became the 14th International Navigation Forum. It was organised by GLONASS/GNSS Forum. General sponsor: Roscosmos State Corporation. Strategic partner: SBER AUTOTECH. Partner: EXPOCENTRE AO. 

Business leaders, leading experts, representatives of legislative and executive authorities discussed the achievements of the communications industry, innovative developments in the field of telecommunications, navigation equipment, transport telematics, and intelligent urban mobility. The main innovation of the forum's conference programme in 2021 was the Sfera Congress, which was supported by Roscosmos State Corporation and was dedicated to the Sfera programme and its application markets. 

Alexander Gurko, President of GLONASS Union, moderated the plenary session of the forum. 

The plenary session was opened by Yuri Urlichich, First Deputy Director General for Orbital Constellation Development and Advanced Projects of the Roscosmos State Corporation. In his presentation he stressed that the basis of the ideology of the Sfera programme is man. Man is the main value of society and the basis of progress. Implementation of this programme is intended to improve the quality of life, to help people live and save lives. According to the developers, Sfera will be able to ensure high quality of space services, and will also make it possible to form a distributed infrastructure for data collection of mobile, robotic and unmanned objects. 

The main topic of the report of the President of GLONASS Union and the co-head of the NTI Autonet working group Alexander Gurko was the commercialisation of space technologies in transport within the framework of the Sfera programme. In his speech, Mr. Gurko emphasised the promising project of satellite "Button of Life" - a highly efficient ecosystem of integrated services aimed at implementing such services as personal search and rescue, environmental monitoring, control of unmanned robotic systems, remote diagnostics and telemedicine, security services and escort. 

The plenary session was attended by Konstantin Smaznov, Deputy Director of the Radio-Electronic Industry Department of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dmitry Bakanov, Director of the Digital Development Department of the Russian Ministry of Transport, Dmitry Sevostyanov, Director General of Gazprom Space Systems, and Steve Bochinger, Director of Euroconsult. 

The Autonet innovative transport technology market was also addressed, including the formation of a complete ecosystem of consumers and providers of services, systems and modern vehicles based on intelligent platforms, networks and infrastructure in the logistics of people and things.

A large part of the Forum programme focused on the application of GNSS technologies for unmanned and connected vehicles. The Sfera Congress sections dealt with satellite communications and broadcasting systems, the use of GLONASS as a global industrial technology to create integrated products and services, entrepreneurship in space, trends and the future of the industry, as well as space-based Earth remote sensing systems and high-precision satellite navigation. 

The International Navigation Forum brought together users, integrators, investors, vendors and suppliers. The event was attended by 780 people. More than 60 recognised industry experts spoke at the forum. 

The Russian Software Forum: Effective Solutions became the third important event of Russian Week of High Technologies. The forum was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Competence Center of Import Substitution in the ICT Sector, the Russian Software Products Association “Russian Software” and other experts. 

The forum started with the Plenary Session: Information Technologies: from Digital Sovereignty to Building Ecosystems, organised by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Russian State Duma Committee on Education and Science, the Expert Council on Scientific and Technological Development and Intellectual Property of the Russian State Duma Committee on Education and Science, and EXPOCENTRE AO.

“Russian Software: Effective Solutions is an important component of the NTI Expo project designed to help addressing priority tasks in the transformation of science and technology, education, digital economy, industry, transport infrastructure and energy. Over the past year, the world has changed dramatically and digital technologies have become fully transversal to all areas of the economy”.

The plenary session was addressed by Ilya Massukh, Director of the Competence Center of Import Substitution in the ICT Sector, Natalia Kasperskaya, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Software Products Association “Russian Software” (ARPP), Andrey Goncharov, Head of the Main Department for Research and Technological Support of Advanced Technologies (Innovation Research) of the Russian Ministry of Defence, Alexander Osadchuk, Deputy Head of the Information Systems Department of the Russian Ministry of Defence, and other leading experts. The topics for discussion also included: a comprehensive strategy for the development of the IT industry in Russia, state support measures for the industry, import substitution regulation, digital sovereignty and a number of others. 

Special attention was paid to the compatibility and synchronisation of the Russian software and hardware at the Thematic Session on Russian Software and Hardware: on the Road to the Country's Technological Independence. Within the forum, the Thematic Session on Russian IT Solutions: the Foundation of the Country's Digital Sovereignty organised by the Russian Ministry of Defence.

International Telecommunication Academy jointly with EXPOCENTRE AO held International Forum of the International Telecommunication Academy (MAC) “Digital Solutions for Sustainable Development” with representatives of the state authorities, regional commonwealth structures in the field of communications, professional public associations, research institutions and commercial companies. 

Anatoly Nazeikin, Vice President of the International Telecommunication Academy, Chairman of the Labour Union of Communication Workers of Russia, addressed the participants of the forum. He congratulated all those involved in the International Telecommunication Academy on the 25th anniversary of the organisation. Yury Pripachkin, President of the Russian Association of Cryptoindustry and Blockchain, spoke about the basic principles of building a digital economy. The report of Nurudin Mukhitdinov, Director General of the RCC Executive Committee, focused on promising directions in the field of digital development in the member countries of the Regional Commonwealth of Communications. The discussion continued in four thematic sessions on the application of innovative Russian technologies for achieving the sustainable development goals, quantum communications, development of a national qualifications system in telecommunications, postal communications and radio engineering, and the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in digital transformation. 

Within Russian Week of High Technologies the online Panel on Measures to Support Russian Companies to Participate in International Trade Shows in the Post-pandemic Period and Implementation of the National Project on International Cooperation and Export took place. 

Alexey Vyalkin, Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO, the panel moderator, drew particular attention to the role of exhibitions in implementing the National Project on International Cooperation and Export. According to the speaker, supporting the participation of Russian exporters in international exhibitions held in Russia expands their opportunities in terms of stimulating the growth of non-resource sectors of the National Project on International Cooperation and Export. This not only enables them to regain markets and platforms for innovation, but also to promote their products for export. 

Among the panel participants were Timur Irtuganov, General Director of the Association of Furniture and Wood Processing Industry of Russia, Tatiana An, Managing Director for the Organisation of Congress and Exhibition Events and Business Missions of the REC, Lyudmila Malovanina, Head of the Vologda Region Export Support Centre, Alexey Popov, Head of the External Relations Department of the Samara Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry Union, Ivan Kovsh, President of the Laser Association, Sergey Pisarev, Deputy General Director of the Dubna Special Economic Zone for Investments and Innovations, and other experts.
