The Results of the First Decade of Science and Technology in Medicine
The renowned Russian Health Care Week 2022 took place at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds, Moscow, Russia, from 5 through 9 December 2022. It is Russia’s largest annual series of congresses and exhibitions which cover almost the entire medical and health care industry from development to production of medical devices, from scientific research to practical applications in medicine.
The latest medical equipment, medical products, consumables, rehabilitation and prevention equipment, aesthetic medicine products, pharmaceuticals and products for healthy lifestyles, medical and health-improving services, health improvement and treatment technologies in Russia and abroad were on display at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds.
Russian Health Care Week dates back to the Zdravookhraneniye exhibition, which has been held since 1974 and is one of the oldest medical trade shows in Europe.
The Week is organised by the Russian State Duma, the Russian Ministry of Health Care and EXPOCENTRE AO with support of the Russian Federation Council and the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and under auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Week is traditionally included in the list of events supported by the Russian Ministry of Health Care and in the general list of events held in Russia and abroad for participation of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The main objective of this year’s events, in the current challenging realities, was to facilitate prompt resolution of issues related to the nationwide operation of the medical industry and the health protection of the country's citizens. Russian Health Care Week 2022 acted as a platform for making crucial decisions in various fields of Russian medicine.

In order to strengthen the role of science and technology in addressing the most important challenges for the development of society and the country, the Week’s distinctive feature in 2022 was its inclusion in two initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia: Designing the Future and Interaction Platforms for Science, Business, State and Society.
The aim of the Decade is to ensure Russia's competitiveness in the global high-tech market and guarantee the country's technological sovereignty and economic security.
The Week served as a platform to summarise the results of the first year of the Decade of Science and Technology in Medicine. It contributed to achieving the three main objectives of the Decade in terms of attracting talented young people to the field of research and development, promoting the involvement of researchers and developers in addressing the most important challenges for society and the country, and making information about the achievements and prospects of Russian science more accessible to citizens of the Russian Federation.
In order to effectively collaborate the interests of researchers, manufacturers, investors and consumers at the Week’s exhibitions in 2022, there were created several venues, which contributed to the promotion of innovative developments.

The key topics for 2022 were the promotion of such national projects as Health Care, Demography, Tourism and Hospitality, the federal project of Development of Medical Services Export, the development of digital technologies in medicine, the functioning of medical institutions under new challenges, and ensuring national sovereignty in various fields of medicine.

The showcase of Russian Health Care Week 2022 was devoted to management of health care, development of exports of medical services and the health resort industry in various regions of Russia, and also presented medical and rehabilitation technologies and equipment.
Russian Health Care Week 2022 have covered virtually all medical industry bringing together under one roof such leading exhibitions as Zdravookhraneniye, Healthy Lifestyle, MedTravelExpo. Medical Clinics, Health and Spa Resorts, PharmMedProm and major events of the Week’s conference programme.
The latest medical equipment was presented by 799 companies from 15 countries (Armenia, Austria, Belarus, China, Cuba, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Russia, Turkey, and the USA).

The dynamically developing Russian-Iranian relations boosted the organisation of Iran's first national showcase at Russian Health Care Week to present the country's achievements in the field of medical technology and equipment, which aroused interest among Russian colleagues.
This year's edition also saw a record number of Russian regional group stands and pavilions from 45 regions of this country, formed largely thanks to active cooperation with state structures supporting business initiatives.

“This year, 100 more Russian companies took part in the exhibitions, and it has expanded its space by 15%. We, the EXPOCENTRE team, hope to continue being an integrator of the processes necessary for today's economy, and to help Russian innovative products find their consumers... Forty-five Russian regions have been represented by regional showcases this year, i.e. they are actually stands of Russian regions, united by the common task of showing those breakthrough technologies and innovative equipment, which one region or another – naturally, based on its medical technologies and enterprises – can present to foreign colleagues.”
For the first time, the Russian Export Centre organised a joint showcase of medical machinery and equipment manufacturers under the Made in Russia brand. It presented 29 Russian enterprises of the medical and pharmaceutical industry on an area of more than 700 sq m. Visitors got acquainted with a wide range of materials and technologies for laboratory and functional diagnostics, therapy and surgery, rehabilitation equipment, medical automation equipment, medical facilities equipping, therapeutic and recreational drugs, orthopaedics, and other products.
The Made in Russia showcase was visited by a large number of industry professionals from all over the world. Over five days, Russian participants held more than 200 meetings and negotiations with visitors from Belarus, China, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
Zdravookhraneniye 2022 and Healthy Lifestyle 2022 welcomed such well-known companies as Vita-Pool, Lojer Medical, Samsung, Pharmster, Medlex, Almaz-Antey, S.P. MedTravelExpo 2022. Medical Clinics, Health and Spa Resorts demonstrated the potential of Russia's regions in the field of health resort treatment, health improvement, and medical technologies.
Achievements and capabilities of Russian regions were presented by the Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of the Republic of Crimea, the Ministry of Tourism and Health Resorts of Stavropol Krai, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Novosibirsk Oblast, the Altai Tourist Centre, the St. Petersburg Medical Tourism Agency, the Ugra Health Care Department and Development Foundation, the Health Care Department and Medical Centre of the City of Volgograd, the Resorts of Bashkortostan Association, the Meditsynskiy Gorod Cluster of Tyumen, Voronezh and Pskov Oblasts, etc.
Leading clinics and medical facilities were represented: the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the National Medical Research Centre for Rehabilitation and Health Resort Therapy of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the Botkin Hospital of the Moscow City Department of Health Care, the North Caucasus Specialised Health Resort and Rehabilitation Centre of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Foot Surgery Centre of the Yudin Clinical Hospital, and others.
The PharmMedProm group showcase, arranged under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, presented products of 44 Russian manufacturers of medical devices, who showed their cutting-edge developments designed to provide high-tech medical care, special purpose furniture, and surgical instruments.
Conference Programme
The diverse and eventful conference programme of Russian Health Care Week 2022 brought together 90 landmark industry events, which took place in offline and hybrid formats with the participation of 940 leading Russian and foreign speakers.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the co-organisers, the programme acquired a pronounced focus on the development of medical science in a variety of areas. Speakers and experts have repeatedly noted the indisputable advantage of EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds, which makes it possible to support their presentations with visual demonstrations of innovative developments presented at the exhibitions of Russian Health Care Week.

The honorable mission of Russian Health Care Week as the final event of the first year of the Decade of Science and Technology in Medicine was, among other things, to create the necessary conditions for the promotion of innovative developments and their practical application.
On the very first day of the Week, scientific and practical events were launched at several venues to discuss breakthrough innovative medical technologies.
On 5 December, the Presentation Area in the Forum Pavilion offered the 4th Conference on Additive Technologies for Medicine: International and Russian Experience, organised by Z-axis OOO in partnership with EXPOCENTRE, where researchers presented their developments in 3D modelling used in public health care, and the Panel Discussion on Medical Robots and Intelligent ControlSystems: Diagnosis, Rehabilitation, Surgery, organised by the Consortium of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the Russian Association of Robotics (RAR) in partnership with EXPOCENTRE. These are new, promising areas of science and technology development with a wide range of applications.
The participants of the discussion talked about the effectiveness of the Russian Health Care Week platform in terms of joint discussion of the trends and prospects of development of the global and Russian medical robotics market with an interested professional consumer audience, and discussed the current trends in the development of the industry and the features of integration processes in the current environment. A wide range of medical robotic solutions in diagnostics, rehabilitation, prosthetics, surgery and medical research – particularly relevant in terms of ensuring technological sovereignty – were presented. Much attention was paid to the discussion of practices of applying medical robots and necessary measures to stimulate the implementation of new solutions in medicine. During the discussion, the participants highlighted the high export potential of Russian medical robotic solutions and the demand in the domestic market.
Based on the results of the panel discussion, leading industry players and the professional medical community have come to the decision to draft a resolution to be sent to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Russian Export Centre.
Practical application of scientific developments was discussed at different meetings of the Profile Commissions of the Russian Ministry of Health Care for Cardiology, Occupational Pathology, and Sports Medicine.
For the first time Russian Health Care Week and EXPOCENTRE hosted the Meeting of the Profile Commission of the Russian Ministry of Health Care for Cardiology, organised by the Almazov National Medical Research Centre of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, and the Chazov National Medical Research Centre of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, and the Plenary Session of the Board of the Russian Society of Cardiology. More than 50 chief cardiologists, leading medical experts and professors from medical universities and health care organisers from all over the country participated in the meeting of the committee. More than 100 people participated online. The event was moderated by Sergey Boytsov and Evgeniy Shlyakhto, chief cardiologists of the Russian Ministry of Health Care and Academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On December 5, the programme was opened with the 14th Russian Assembly of Professionals in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Industries, organised by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Rosmedprom Association, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the OPORA RUSSIA Non-Government Association with support of EXPOCENTRE.
In his welcoming address to the congress participants Russian Minister of Health Care Mikhail Murashko noted that the work aimed at modernisation and improvement of production of quality and effective medicines and medical devices created conditions for their transition to an innovative model of functioning, which was the main objective of the state policy on development of the national pharmaceutical and medical industry.
The Congress summarised the work of professional public associations and organisations on improving the competitiveness of the production of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, the efficient use and development of the potential in the field of medical technologies to create modern, safe and affordable means of preventing and treating diseases in the context of the economic restrictions imposed on Russia.
On the opening day, the Emergency Medical Center of the Moscow City Department of Health Care in partnership with EXPOCENTRE organised the Section on Ambulance and Disaster Medicine. It focused, among other things, on the current issues of medical evacuation of patients in critical conditions, first aid training for the population, renewal of ambulance fleet, reduction of operating costs, and improvement of the safety of medical staff and patients during transport through the use of new technical solutions.
The 38th International Forum on Circulation of Medical Products in Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union featured different workshops and panels with detailed reviews of innovations in the circulation of medical devices in the current conditions, current issues of registration practice, key changes in the regulatory legislation of Russia and the EAEU in 2022 and 2023, a simplified registration system for medical devices and other topics. The forum’s participants included representatives of National Institute of Quality of the Federal Service for Surveillance in Health Care, Russian Research and Testing Institute of Medical Technology of the Federal Service for Surveillance in Health Care, the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Medical Technology Consortium, and regulatory authorities from other countries.
On 5–6 December, the 8th Russian Conference on Private Clinics in Russia for directors and chief physicians was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and KVK Imperia. Twenty speakers gave key insights into the commercial medicine market in Russia and shared tools for overcoming the industry's most frequent problems. The emphasis was on the practice and professional experience of the experts, which can be implemented right in the clinics.
One of the important events of Russian Health Care Week 2022 was the meeting of the Committee on Exhibition, Fair, and Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly with the StrategySession on the Decade for Science and Technology: Medicine, Human Resources,Laws.

“It is noteworthy that Russian Health Care Week is part of two initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation at once, which are Designing the Future and Platforms for the Interaction of Science, Business, State and Society. This clearly confirms that this country's medical industry is not only actively developing, but also needs to be professionally promoted through congresses and exhibitions such as Russian Health Care Week.”
The session was moderated by Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chair at the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, who noted that Russian Health Care Week was also part of the large-scale NTI-EXPO (Science-Technology-Innovations EXPO) project, which focused on the implementation of government programmes in science, technology, education and the digital economy.
The session dealt with a wide range of issues related to the development of medicine, medical technologies, health care management, training of personnel for modern medicine with a focus on primary care, as well as the improvement of the legal and regulatory framework.
On December 6, the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba with support of EXPOCENTRE arranged the presentation ‘Cuba: Health for Everyone’. The consequent panel was moderated by Belkis Barnet, a member of the Cuban delegation and expert of the International Cooperation Department of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba.
The meeting was opened by Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation Julio Antonio Garmendia Peña, who described the state of trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries.
Executives of Cuban and Russian pharmaceutical and medical companies made presentations of their products and services and offered an assessment of the prospects for Russian-Cuban cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals.
The priority objective of the Decade is, among other things, to provide support for research and development in order to ensure Russia's competitiveness in the global high-tech market and guarantee the country's technological sovereignty and economic security.
In this view, the Medical Technology Consortium and EXPOCENTRE held the PanelDiscussion of Support Measures for the Innovative Development of the MedicalIndustry.
The panel’s participants included Chair of the Board of the Medical Technology Consortium Ivan Ozhgikhin, General Director at the Medical Technology Consortium Kirill Litvetskiy, Director of the Department of Supply of Medicines and Regulation of Circulation of Medical Products of the Russian Ministry of Health Care Elena Astapenko, Deputy Head at Roszdravnadzor Dmitry Pavlyukov, and General Director at the Association of Defense Enterprises – Manufacturers of Medical Goods and Equipment Aleksandr Smirnov.
At the event, federal and regional development institutions presented programmes to support innovation in the medical industry.
The discussion participants were introduced to the concept of the Competence Centre of the Medical Technology Consortium as an integrator between all project participants from a patent to market launch.
On December 7, EXPOCENTRE jointly with the Filatov International Foundation for Biomedical Technologies Development organised the 2nd Interdisciplinary Forum ‘THE YOUNG MEDICINE’, which was one of the key events of Russian Health Care Week 2022, to promote the involvement of talented young people in research and development, support young medical scientists, and present advanced and innovative medical technologies to the interested students of Russian regional medical colleges and universities.
The YOUNG MEDICINE Forum was opened with addresses by Deputy Chair at the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Galina Karelova, Chair at the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Inna Svyatenko, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova, and Russian Deputy Minister of Health Care Tatiana Semyonova. First Deputy Director General at EXPOCENTRE Sergey Selivanov welcomed the participants on behalf of the company.

Ekaterina Dibrova, President of the Filatov International Foundation for Biomedical Technologies Development, addressed the young scientists and researchers on behalf of the forum organisers, who pointed out the high practical interest in the formats proposed within the forum. In particular, this year the YOUNG MEDICINE Russian Scientific School selected 176 projects of health care leaders from most regions of Russia.
Russian Minister of Health Care Mikhail Murashko emphasised in his welcome address to the Forum that our country needed a new class of scientists who would have a core specialisation in one industry, such as genetics, and additional competencies in another cross-cutting technology, such as digitalisation. Together they give birth to a new class of scientists who are capable of making breakthroughs. YOUNG MEDICINE is valuable above all because it opens up new names of promising scientists in most regions of Russia.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Armais Kamalov moderated the scientific tracks for young scientists. Young people from the Lomonosov Moscow State University Medical Research and Education Centre, Sechenov University, and representatives of medical science schools in Belgorod, Samara, and St. Petersburg spoke about promising solutions in the fields of biomedicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, oncology, urology, pharmacology, and dentistry. The track called Science for Medicine. Moving Forward focused on the training of young professionals and scientific teams, and their role in the future of Russian medicine. Interesting topics included ‘The interaction between project activities and the entrepreneurial environment’ and ‘The Center of Scientific Career as the integrated training system for young scientists at Sechenov University’.

The 2nd edition of YOUNG MEDICENE also featured the Panel on Young Science to the Russian Regions, the Panel on Science to Medicine. Keeping Ahead of the Curve, the Panel on the Men's Health as a Demographic Factor, the Foresight Session on Russia Needs You: Mentoring and Employing Young Medical Professionals, and the Plenary Session on the Role of Biotechnology in Disease Prevention and Treatment.
The results of the Youth Project Competition were also summarised, which allowed for a high level of expert evaluation of the best submissions in various categories and the identification of the most gifted future and already practicing medical professionals, including medical students and postgraduate students, residents, young doctors, pharmacists and researchers.
The hybrid interactive format of the Forum, combined with an online webcast, attracted a wide professional audience.

The YOUNG MEDICINE also summed up results of the youth project competition and hosted an award ceremony for the winners.
Industry professionals took an active part in the Scientific and Methodological Forum for Health Care Managers 2022, whose topic this year was Investing in Health: Medical Science for People. The event was organised by the Moscow City Department of Health Care and the Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of the Moscow City Department of Health Care in partnership with EXPOCENTRE AO. At the plenary session, participants discussed global changes in Moscow’s medicine and health care, key achievements and successful management practices in health care institutions.
Over the past nine years, the city's thoughtful strategy and initiatives have led to a dramatic change in health care. The introduction of new technologies and treatment approaches has set new challenges and goals for specialists who are leaders in their field.
In 33 sections, in three parallel broadcasts, the chief physicians of Moscow clinics, health care managers, doctors, researchers and experts spoke about the most important decisions in organising the Moscow healthcare system, including strategic staffing decisions and proposals for effective financial planning and management in medical institutions.
On December 7, the Session on Developing Technology Partnerships between Manufacturers of Medical Devices, Raw Materials and Components was held as part of the PharmMedProm forum. It was moderated by Andrey Generalov, First Deputy Director of the Institute of Medical Materials of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. The main topics for discussion were the situation on the medical devices market and perspectives of the sector development in the current economic conditions, supplying the sector with raw materials and components, and development of inter-branch technological partnerships.
A working meeting on the development of production in the Russian Federation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices for primary medical care in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases and preventive medicine was organised by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade with support of EXPOCENTRE. The main topics included the review of current needs for the primary health care system, the issues of regulating the circulation of pharmaceuticals and medical products, and the development of manufacturing of pharmaceuticals in Russia. The meeting participants discussed the prospects of the Russian medical industry in terms of ensuring technological sovereignty as well as development of manufacturing of innovative medical products. The meeting was co-chaired by Director of the National Research Centre for Therapy and Preventive Medicine, Chief Freelance Specialist in Therapy and General Medical Practice of the Russian Ministry of Health Care Oksana Drapkina and Director at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry Development of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Dmitry Galkin.
The issues of public health promotion, primary prevention treatment and surveillance of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases were discussed at the 2nd Forum on Preventive Continuum, organised by the National Medical Research Centre of Preventive Health Care of the Russian Ministry of Health Care with support of the Russian Society of Non-Communicable Disease Prevention.
It was attended by chief freelance therapists and preventive health care specialists, heads of regional public health and preventive health care centres, as well as general practitioners and preventive health care physicians from all over the country.
The participants shared innovative approaches to the implementation of public health awareness programmes, experience in effective organisation of work in population screening and health check-ups, and the introduction of information systems.
The main trends in the development of medical technology in paediatric rehabilitation were discussed at the INCLUSION-EXPO International Forum 2022:Rehabilitation. Accessible Environment. Assistive Technologies.

“Russian Health Care Week is one of the key events in the action plan for the Decade of Science and Technology from this year onwards. Therefore, the health care system will be considered at almost all levels of authority through the prism of science and new technologies. Rehabilitation takes on a particular importance at a time of total population ageing, declining demographics and pandemics.”
On December 8, Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University of the Russian Ministry of Health Care and EXPOCENTRE AO organised the Conference on Technological Sovereignty and Innovative Development of Digital Medicine.

For the second time Russian Health Care Week hosted the Forum on Pharmacy 4.0: Innovation, Technology, Strategy of the Future, organised by EXPOCENTRE AO jointly with independent expert in retail innovations Boris Agatov.
Pharmacy 4.0 discussed the critical changes being brought about by new technology and changes in legislation (e.g. prescription drugs in distance selling). Participants in the special Pharmacy 4.0 stream agreed that now as customers had more trust in digital channels, a significant portion of consumers will inevitably migrate to marketplace channels. Offline pharmacies, in order to retain customers, need to change to create a better customer experience.
As the experiment of selling prescription drugs via the Internet begins, market participants will have to deal with many organisational issues such as how to save personal data when handing over drugs by couriers, how to check the validity of prescriptions, and how to control drug recalls. Thus, next year promises to continue the transformation of the pharmaceutical industry and the pharmacy business.
The PanelDiscussion on the Export of ‘Made in Russia’ Medical Equipment. SupportMeasures, New Opportunities and Success Stories. New Geography of Exports generated a great interest. It was organised by the Russian Export Center and the Medical Technology Consortium in partnership with EXPOCENTRE AO. Manufacturers of medical equipment interested in entering new markets discussed export support measures and new business opportunities in today's challenges.
On December 8, the 24th Scientific and Practical Conference on Current Resources for the Prevention of Dental Diseases was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Anatoly Kolesnik. The event was organised by the Central Research and Development Institute of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Russian Ministry of Health Care.
One more important event was the two-day 17th edition of the International Scientific Conference on the Current State and Development Prospects of the Elite Sports Medicine – SportMed2022. It was organised by the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the Russian Ministry of Sports, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, the Russian Association for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation of Patients and the Disabled (RASMIBRI), the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, the Federal Research and Clinical Centre of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation FMBA Russia, and EXPOCENTRE AO.

The conference included a meeting of the Profile Commission of the Russian Ministry of Health Care for Sports Medicine, heads of Russian medical and physical education services and heads of relevant departments of medical and physical education universities, and panels and sections on new developments in the practice of sports medicine, sports traumatology and orthopaedics, cardiology and psychology, as well as problems of young athletes that are not characteristic of their age.
On December 9, SportMed 2022 continued with an extendedsession of the Working Group for the Development of Sports Medicine of thePresidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport.

We took part in medical support for the Winter and Summer Paralympic Open Games – We're Together. Sport.’
The discussion of the most relevant issues in sports medicine was continued by the 9th Conference on Medical Support for Elite Sports – 75 Years of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, the 15th International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists on Relevant Issues of Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Physiotherapy and Balneology, and an award ceremony for sports medicine professionals.
Taking into account its wide regional coverage and in order to support small and medium-sized businesses in health care and the social sphere, Russian Health Care Week includes the Expo-Academy project, where EXPOCENTRE and leading industry experts hold educational events and presentations that are popular with the professional audience and enjoy great reviews.

On December, Expo-Academy held the final session of EXPOCENTRE's Speakers' School ‘The Boss Speaks!’ – Masterclass in Public Speaking: How to Speak Confidently at Congresses.
Polina Taraskina, CEO of the Speech School ‘Freedom to Speak’, a certified speaker trainer at the University of Rhetoric and Public Speaking with a successful practice since 2018, held an effective multi-hour training session for exhibitors, MedTravelClub members, culminating in a group business game and keynote speeches.
MedTravelExpo's conference programme is always intense. In 2022, which is the show’s anniversary year, leading Russian and foreign experts took part in numerous forums and conferences devoted to the development of medical and health tourism.
On December 5, Expo-Academy featured the Forum on Health Resorts and Spas: Wait or Act Now?. It was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO in partnership with the AMOS Association of Hoteliers and the Apparel consulting company. The moderator was Valentin Shubin, the coordinator of the tourist cashback programmes of the Federal Agency for Tourism, who spoke in particular about the impact of cashback on the health resort industry.
The forum participants included Honorary President at the Russian Union of Travel Industry Sergey Shpilko, Deputy Chief Physician for Medical Assistance Organisation and Development at the Lomonosov Moscow State University Hospital Svetlana Moiseenko, business consultant and one of the leading practitioners in customer service and service skills development in the health resort industry Yulia Ivanova, and Director General at the Crimean Wave tourist company Sergey Poluyanov. The speakers talked about current trends in the industry, considered successful cases of interaction between leading clinics and health resorts, and examined the prospects for developing cooperation with travel companies.
The forum brought together leading practitioners: representatives of state authorities, heads of Russia's largest medical institutions, and top experts in the medical and tourism businesses.
On December 5–8, MedTravelExpo hosted the MED TOURISM International Forum 2022 for medical tourism and export of medical services. The event was organised by the Association of Medical Tourism and Export of Medical Services in partnership with EXPOCENTRE. Its general partner was the Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of the Moscow City Department of Health Care.
The MED TOURISM Forum brought together leading industry experts in medical tourism from 12 countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey, the UAE, and Uzbekistan.
Its programme included a series of international sessions on the development of medical tourism in the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Middle East countries.
The forum opened with a plenary session on the annual results of different projects related to medical tourism and export of medical services. It was moderated by Elena Aksenova, Director at the Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of the Moscow City Department of Health Care.
On behalf of EXPOCENTRE, First Deputy General Director Sergey Selivanov welcomed the forum participants. He noted that MedTravelExpo was a leading industry event and had been making a significant contribution to the development of medical tourism in this country for five years.
One of the most important events of the forum was the Symposium of National Medical Research Centres, which was held with support and participation of the Coordinating Centre for the Implementation of the Federal Project for Development of Export of Medical Services. The symposium was opened by Oksana Drapkina, Director at the National Research Centre for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health Care of Russia. The moderator was Sabina Grin, Head of the Coordinating Centre for the Implementation of the Federal Project for Development of Export of Medical Services. The National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine also presented the book ‘100 Steps to Success in Medical Tourism’, which was published in December 2022, and held an autograph session with the book’s co-authors, who were leading practitioners of medical tourism in Russia.
For the first time, the MedTravelAcademy, which is a two-day training programme for participants in the medical tourism and medical services export market, was organised at the MED TOURISM Forum. Its participants were handed out certificates issued by the Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of the Moscow City Department of Health Care.
The signing ceremony of international agreements between the presidents of medical tourism associations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan, Russian regions and leading medical organisations of various forms of ownership was a truly striking international event. In addition, its participants took a decision to establish an international alliance of medical tourism associations of the countries friendly to Russia.
The highlight of MED TOURISM was the announcement of the results of the MedTravelLeaders Russian Competition among participants in the medical tourism market. The competition commission received 280 applications from Russia’s 8 federal districts. As usual, 50 finalists of the contest were honoured at the ceremony, among which the following received the greatest number of awards: the Health Care Committee of Volgograd Oblast, the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine, the Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of the Moscow City Department of Health Care, the Medical Tourism Coordination Centre of Tyumen Oblast, the St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee, and the St. Petersburg Medical Tourism Agency.

On December 8, Yulia Ivanova, a business consultant and one of the leading practitioners in customer service and staff development in the health resort industry, led an intensive course entitled 'SancurService 2022: Building Profitable Services' for owners, directors and quality managers of health resorts and clinics offering many effective tools and business ideas.
The gained knowledge will enable participants to assess the existing level of service and client satisfaction with the quality of services provided, calculate the amount of lost income from poor service, use new tools to study client needs and develop a service strategy for their spa hotel, and update the team's training tools for client-oriented approaches in their work.
EXPOCENTRE has organised the InternationalMedical Tourism Workshop for the participants in MedTravelExpo. Medical Clinics, Health and Spa Resorts.
The aim of the Workshop was to present the potential of MedTravelExpo participants to foreign companies, which offered their tourists medical treatment and rehabilitation tours to various countries, in a format of short B2B meetings.
In 2022, representatives of 14 medical tourism agencies took part in the 3rd International Medical Tourism Workshop. There were more than 250 B2B meetings, where exhibitors were able to present their achievements to foreign buyers, obtain quality partnership contacts, and sign cooperation documents. A total of 49 cooperation agreements were signed during the workshop.
The speakers were heads of foreign associations and medical tourism agencies from Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan.

As part of MedTravelExpo 2022, Expo-Academy featured daily presentations of the medical and health care opportunities offered by Russia's regions.
In particular, Viktoria Troneva, Deputy Chair of the Volgograd Oblast Health Care Committee and Administrator of the Development of Medical Services Export regional project, was the main speaker at the Presentation of the Medical Potential of the Volgograd Oblast. This region welcomed 13.5 thousand medical tourists in 2022 alone.
Elena Kasyanova, Deputy Director at the Health Care Department of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra, and Vladislava Vishnevskaya, Head of the Centre of Competences in Tourism of the Ugra Development Fund, spoke about their region’s capabilities for medical and health tourism during UgraDay. The Republic of Crimea, Novosibirsk and Voronezh regions also presented their capabilities (e.g. the Presentation of Voronezh: World-Class Treatment and Recovery Opportunities Just 500 km from Moscow).
EXPOCENTRE and Domashenko.Digital Consulting Group organised the Forum on Medical Marketing. Success Stories for the audience of business owners, clinic managers, chief doctors, commercial directors, representatives of the medical community and marketing experts and professionals. The forum was moderated by Valery Domashenko, founder of Domashenko.Digital.
Presentations were made by Tatyana Tishchenko, founder of "Clinic for the whole family 1+1", Elina Pronina, head doctor and general director of private clinics "Medical Center Family", Andrey Modestov, director and board member of Medskan Group, Anna Zagitova, marketing director of federal network of dentists "Doctor Keller" and other leading experts in medical business. Presentations were made by founder of the Clinic for the Whole Family 1+1 Tatyana Tishchenko, Head Doctor and General Director at the Medical Center Family private clinics Elina Pronina, Director and Board Member of Medscan Group Andrey Modestov, Marketing Director at the Doctor Keller federal network of dentistry clinics Anna Zagitova, and other leading experts in medical business.
The 4th Congress on Health Resort Industry. Science. Results was devoted to key aspects of the integration of research and development into the practical work of health resort companies in Russia, human resource development in the health resort sector, innovative methods of health resort treatment, medical rehabilitation in health resorts, requirements for integrated programmes of health resort treatment, natural healing resources as a tool to increase the attractiveness of health resorts, and other important topics. The congress was organised by the National Medical Research Centre for Rehabilitation and Health Resort Therapy of the Russian Ministry of Health Care and the National Association of Experts in Spa Treatment with support of EXPOCENTRE AO.
One of the main medical and health tourism events was the 3rd Global Medical Tourism Summit, organised by the St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee, the Congress and Exhibition Bureau, and the St. Petersburg Medical Tourism Agency in partnership with EXPOCENTRE AO. The plenary session was devoted to the development of the medical tourism market in the face of constraints and new opportunities emerging for the tourism industry, the health and spa sector and medicine.
The summit speakers included Chair at the Russian State Duma Committee on Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure Development Sangadzhi Tarbaev, Minister of Resorts and Tourism of the Republic of Crimea Vadim Volchenko, Deputy Chair at the St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee Yulia Kuzenskaya, and Honorary President at the Russian Union of Travel Industry Sergey Shpilko.
On the second day of the summit, there were discussions on medical tourism as a driver of recovery of the tourism industry and interaction of health and medical infrastructures at the regional and national level in general, and a case study session called ‘Integrative Approach in Medical and Health Tourism’.
On December 6 and 7, EXPOCENTRE in partnership with the National Association of Health Care Managers and the Medical Business School organised events for business owners, investors, heads of non-governmental and governmental medical institutions, chief physicians, commercial directors and other representatives of the medical community.
The guest speakers discussed trends and innovations that had the potential to change the global approach to healthcare, reforms to the state's regulatory system, prospects for international cooperation, and support measures for medical businesses in the context of the pandemic.
The events were moderated Anna Solomakhina, the founder and CEO at the Medical Business School, a business consultant on the opening and management of clinics, doctor, health care manager, Co-chair and Head of the Committee for Medical Education of the Association of Health Care Managers, and Muslim Muslimov, Chair at the Association of Health Care Managers, founder of the network of Clinic No. 1 multifunctional centers, member of the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Health Care, and commissioner for medical services under the Business Ombudsman of Moscow.
On December 6, EXPOCENTRE in partnership with the Association of Managers of Health Care and the Medical Business School held the Conference on How to Run a Modern Clinic Efficiently. The topics for discussion were administrators, registration and contact centres, medical communications: effective work of a doctor with patient objections, system business in medicine, a price list of medical services: pricing, nomenclature, management accounting, and whether a manager needed to be a leader and why.
At the Workshop on How to Open a Medical Centre. A Step-by-Step Plan, the main topics were the concept of a profitable medical centre, specifics of a clinic’s business plan, types of taxation in the medical business, how to purchase equipment, requirements for information systems for medical companies, etc.
The Conference on Health Care Management: Results of 2022, Trends of 2023 was devoted to the possibilities of public-private partnership in health care in modern conditions, the strategy of private health care companies in modern conditions and challenges, digital transformation of a health care company, and development of the AI market for healthcare.
On December 7, MedTravelExpo hosted the Presentation of Tatiana Sokolov's new book ‘A Model of Working with Patients in Medical Tourism’. Tatiana is CEO at the MedicaTour Agency.
Anna Kilimnichenko, a managing partner, Director at the Internet Advertising Department of OLYMPX, consultant for strategic marketing and web marketing special projects, lecturer at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, spoke about how to make social media an effective tool for generating patients, and how to increase the number of patients without an additional advertising budget during the Forum on Systematic SMM in Medicine and Spa Business.
On December 5–8, the Forum of the International Association of Massage, Esthetics and Rehabilitation Professionals was as part of MedTravelExpo. Speakers from Russia and abroad participated both in person and online. The forum participants discussed the most relevant issues of the industry and shared the latest practices in the field of massage, aesthetics and rehabilitation. The professional audience was particularly interested in the Stress Management Day events and training sessions on protecting the physical and mental health of professionals.
In order to make information about the achievements and prospects of Russian science more accessible to Russian citizens, EXPOCENTRE organised the 3rd MedTravelFest International Festival for Active Lifestyle and Health (B2C format) in cooperation with the organisers of the Moscow Mayor's Moscow Longevity Project. Its partners were the National Medical Research Centre for Rehabilitation and Health Resort Therapy of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the Volgograd Oblast Health Care Committee, the Russian Society of Cardiology, the Lomonosov Medical Research and Education Centre, the Foot Surgery Centre of the Yudin Clinical Hospital, the Voluntary Physical Education Union, the International Association of Massage, Esthetics and Rehabilitation Professionals, Detensor, Medservis Plus, the White Well Sports Complex, Health Culture Centre, the Healthy Optimists Society, and Siberian Force (Novosibirsk Oblast).
As part of MedTravelFest, President at the Russian Society of Cardiology and Director General at the Almazov National Medical Research Centre Evgeniy Shlyakhto made a presentation of the Museum of Health national educational project.
The Genetic Counsellor and Cyber Prosthetist programmes are based on an atlas of future professions and rely exclusively on domestic developments. In many ways, the programmes are career guidance and promote the developments of Russian scientists in the field of medical science and technology among children and teenagers.

The Voluntary Physical Education Union organised Nordic Walking classes for everybody interested and master classes for exhibitors at MedTravelExpo. The Union is led by world and European champion and Olympic medallist Irina Slutskaya and has been implementing the nationwide Nordic Walking as a New Way of Life project for several years.
The Week’s conference programme was concluded with the 3rd Conference on a Doctor's Personal Brand Workshop. It was organised by the D-ZERTS Agency of Medical Consulting in partnership with EXPOCENTRE AO.
The conference featured 10 speakers: well-known doctors, marketing and advertising experts, experts in working with bloggers, and professional photographers. They shared their experience in promoting personal brands, secrets of professional photographers and spoke about advertising in VKontakte, video promotion in YouTube without extra costs, promotion of a doctor in Telegram, work with patients, and much more.
The moderator and organiser of the conference was Viktoria Shmatkova, a medical marketing expert and founder of the Doctor's Personal Brand Workshop. The conference generated a lot of interest among doctors and received a lot of positive feedback.
