The 30th Anniversary International Exhibition for Furniture, Fittings and Upholstery

Mebel 2018 traditionally ran at a high level and featured nice and quality furniture. The industry experts discussed the industry challenges, offered solutions to them and signed lucrative contracts. This year Mebel once again confirmed its status of Russia’s major trade show and an annual event in the furniture industry.

Show Highlights

Future Stars Salon featured author's products (small scale furniture, ergonomic chairs and children's furniture) made by furniture agencies, design studious and joinery shops. Mebel 2018 enabled young talented people to present themselves and share their vision of technology and design solutions. The Salon participants were Intelligent Design, Montly, Lights Wood, HEYPLY, Sand Table, In Shape, Furny, StreetWood, RU-SKY, Le Ti as well as students and graduates of Furniture Design Department of Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Design and Applied Arts.

New Products and Innovations Show was first organized in 2018 within the Components Salon. Manufacturers and suppliers of wood based panels, decors, paints and varnishes and fittings showcased new products and technology.  

Key Supporting Events (84)

Russian Forum on Russian Furniture. Reloading 2018 devoted to the development of furniture and woodworking industries was organized by the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and supported by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. The Forum featured:

  • Plenary meeting on Furniture Industry 4.0: Made in Russia. The meeting participants emphasized that the furniture industry was on the threshold of a new digital transformation and several-fold increase in productivity. They called this transformation 'the fourth industrial revolution'. Leading furniture companies showcased the latest implemented equipment complying with the Industry 4.0 requirements.
  • Meeting of CEOs of companies of slabby and plywood industries;
  • Conference on Substitution Trends in the Wood and Slabby Sector;
  • Conference on Digit Furniture;
  • Conference on Production and Sale of Wood Based Panels and Products Made of Them "Plitprom 2018"

The 3rd PUSHKA International Forum on Innovations in Industrial Design was organized by Artekey Eurasia OOO. Design students met customers and got an opportunity to bring their most ambitious projects to life. The participants are students from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Turkey and Finland.

Design Lounge participants prepared an interesting program.

Design Hour was organized by Advertising Agency Archdialog and the Product Design Experts Association. Recognized experts held workshops and master classes on interior design. The first day was devoted to the Russian furniture design and featured presentations and discussions on different aspects of work of furniture designers including effective promotion of their products to the market

Presentation by Aleksandr Grishaev, Presenter of Shkola Remonta (Renovation School) and Budem Menyat (Let's Change It) projects. According to him, the use of the Internet resources such as YouTube for promotion of goods and services is a more effective tool than commercials. The presenter told how to present information about products on the Internet and how to create live content not just advertising.

The 17th Forum of Directors of Small and Medium Enterprises "Furniture as Business" organized by Imperia Congress and Exhibition Company and Expocentre AO. The Forum participants discussed the current situation with furniture sales in the Russian market, effective mechanisms to increase furniture traffic starting with retail and ending with social networks, the state of the furniture business at the end of 2018 and what it will be like in 2019 and its growth opportunities, prospects of the Russian furniture market, changes in customers' preferences and what niches are worthy of attention.

Purchasing Centre for Retail Chainsтм featured negotiations with purchasers and suppliers from leading dealerships, furniture salons, factories and retailers on supplies of furniture and its components. The Centre enabled the participants in the furniture market to generate the necessary sales leads and expand their business.

Consultation session on Support Tools of Export of Furniture Products was organized by Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Russian Export Center АО, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Expocentre АО. The participants were representatives of industry associations and Russian furniture enterprises.

Round table on Furnished Apartments allowed developers and furniture manufacturers to discuss the most relevant issues of the industry. The speakers emphasized that interest in furnished apartments was growing among customers. The experts agreed that furniture makers, property developers and even final consumers would benefit from this cooperation and this trend would develop.

Seminar on Observance of IP Laws in Furniture Production organized within the Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions project. Partner of ALRUD Law Firm Maria Ostashenko told how to protect furniture design against unauthorized copying. Head of Intellectual Property Department of Exhibition Operating Management of Expocentre AO Alexander Lipkes said that Expocentre provided advice to right holders and assisted in copyright protection.

Employment Centre was attended by hundreds of applicants. Leading companies posted vacancies and found skilled personnel during the trade show. There was held a seminar for graduates of branch schools on how to find a job in their field.

The design tours and consultations of designers and architects took place on the last days of Mebel 2018.

Competitions

Award Ceremony for the winners in the 13th Russian Competition for the RUSSIAN CABRIOLE National Award in industrial design. The owner of Grand Prix and its main prize, an exquisite statue in the form of a curved furniture leg, was Finist (Nizhny Tagil).

Award Ceremony for the winners in the Russian Competition for the Best Design Project of Aluminum Furniture "IdeAL Interior" was organized by the Aluminum Association. The winners were Designer Natalya Musorina in the nomination "Chair made of aluminum framework"; Designer Polina Litomina in the nomination "School furniture"; Irina Chun in the nomination "Aluminum in furniture, interior and accessories. Looking forward".

Award Ceremony for the winners in Ecological Rating Good Wood® 2018. The participants were 75 companies, leading players of interior wooden products market. The rating experts singled out the most sustainable companies and awarded the best ones.

Award ceremony for the winners in the competition of furniture websites "Furniture RUNET 2018". The aim of the competition is to improve the quality of online promotion of furniture companies.

Award ceremony for the winners in the ARTLIGA 2018 competition in industrial design.

Award ceremony for the winners in the 14th International Competition for Quality Goods in the nominations For the Best Consumer Properties and For Successful Promotion of Quality Goods. The winners were given honorary diplomas and medals.
