Sergey Selivanov, Deputy General Director at EXPOCENTRE, Deputy Chair at the Committee for Exhibitions, Fairs and Congresses of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took part in a meeting of the Guild of Creative Industries at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event was held jointly with the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs and the Department of Education of the Moscow City Government. The topic of discussion was personnel training for the industry and new educational programmes.

The meeting was moderated by Konstantin Avagimov, Chair at the Guild of Creative Industries at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Svetlana Ignatieva, Head at the Creative Industries Project Development Department at the Moscow Centre for the Development of Professional Education.

According to Sergey Selivanov, industry knowledge is especially important for B2B trade shows. EXPOCENTRE implements projects in a wide variety of segments, from metalworking and mechanical engineering to the oil and gas industry, chemistry, healthcare, communications, and the food industry. Understanding the specifics of a particular industry becomes a serious advantage for employees. Often, future employees come to EXPOCENTRE from among the professionals of the exhibiting companies.

Specifically, the Deputy General Director of EXPOCENTRE spoke about the issue of personnel renewal. According to him, the company is simultaneously going through a period of cost optimisation and the need to transfer the expertise and industry training accumulated over the decades to new generations of professionals. The institute of mentoring plays an important role in the professional development of new staff in the exhibition industry. So far, it remains the main personnel training institute, Sergey Selivanov believes.

Speaking about the required level of graduate training, Sergey Selivanov highlighted several mandatory basic skills of a modern professional in the exhibition industry: advanced soft skills, knowledge of the basics of business and international protocol, and proficiency in a foreign language.

Commenting on the adopted state educational standard for convention and exhibition activities, Sergey Selivanov noted that the professional community supports this step and considers it as the beginning of systematic work on the formation of a modern training model for the industry. EXPOCENTRE and the relevant committees of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry are ready to participate in finalizing programmes, developing practices and internships, acting as a platform for the development of practice-oriented competencies among students.

The event was attended by Elena Ublieva, Executive Director at the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs, member of the Committee for Exhibitions, Fairs and Congresses of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Viktoria Kalinina, Deputy Executive Director at the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs, Sagid Zaremukov, General Director at the National Congress Bureau, member of the Committee for Exhibitions, Fairs and Congresses of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Diana Kotova, member of the Committee for Exhibitions, Fairs and Congresses of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chair at the Subcommittee of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the Quality of Convention and Exhibition Services.
