A regular meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF), hosted by RUEF President Sergey Voronkov, was held via videoconference.
The members of the RUEF Presidium discussed the preparation of the draft Federal Law on the Exhibition, Trade Fair and Congress Activities in the Russian Federation, as well as the Strategy of Development of the Exhibition and Congress Industry in Russia up to 2030. They also discussed the preparation for the RUEF General Assembly and the World Exhibition Day celebration, which is celebrated on June 7 this year.
RUEF Executive Director Elena Ublieva informed the participants of the meeting about the progress of drafting the Federal Law on the Exhibition, Trade Fair and Congress Activities in the Russian Federation, noting that the working group was actively developing the sections and concepts of the future regulatory document. The drafting process involves the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation. The issues related to events in the Internet sector and advertising content regulation are still under discussion.
RUEF Vice President and Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO Alexey Vyalkin drew the attention of the RUEF Presidium members to the importance of following the trends in the preparation of the draft law which might lead to artificial restrictions on the exhibition and congress services market, potentially contributing to monopolisation in the industry. The participants supported this position and discussed the comments made by the Russian Ministry of Economy regarding the Strategy of Development of the Congress and Exhibition Industry till 2030. At the RUEF Presidium a common position of the representatives of the exhibition and congress industry was voiced: this sphere should by no means be reduced exclusively to the so-called “business tourism”. “Our main task is the development of industries, not business tourism”, said Mr. Vyalkin during the exchange of views with colleagues.
The RUEF Presidium reviewed and approved the draft programme for the General Meeting of RUEF Members on 29–30 June 2023 in Kazan.
