The Panel Discussion on the Export of ‘Made in Russia’ Medical Equipment. Support Measures, New Opportunities and Success Stories. New Geography of Exports took place within Russian Health Care Week 2022. The discussion was organised by the Russian Export Center, the Medical Technology Consortium in partnership with EXPOCENTRE AO.
Medical equipment manufacturers interested in entering new markets discussed export support measures and new opportunities for business in the context of nowadays challenges.
The moderator of the event Andrey Dobritsa, project manager for pharmaceutical and medical industry export support, said that the state provides enormous support to manufacturers of medical equipment. The rate of production of medical equipment, according to him, is impressive. There has been a steady increase in the share of Russian medical equipment in the domestic market. According to estimates of the Ministry of Health Care, the share of Russian companies is 31%. In May 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Trade set a goal for the industry to increase the share of Russian medical equipment to 50% in 2024 and to 80% by 2030.
Kirill Litvitsky, Director General of the Medical Technology Consortium, gave an overview of Russian medical technologies. He spoke about what Russian manufacturers can offer to the world and how the association of medical equipment manufacturers in the consortium strengthens the technological sovereignty of Russia. "We have a certain information vacuum, and we have tried this year to find its causes, as well as to create a convenient ecosystem where a Russian manufacturer can come with its problems and get an answer to every question. The information vacuum is a general problem which must be dealt with. The Industrial Competence Centre has been set up for this purpose - a partner to Russian manufacturers on all issues. It is not enough to make a medical product, it is necessary to register it correctly and submit the documents correctly without errors," the expert explained.
In his opinion, when talking about exports, we should think about showing high quality of our products, first of all, about technological sovereignty. This can be achieved by bringing together manufacturers and developers together with the medical and clinical community, the speaker said, drawing attention to how the financial support tools and services of the REC work to develop exports.
The panelists were told that the REC group is present in 16 regions of the country. There are 82 export support centres operating under regional development ministries. The REC also has 11 representative offices abroad, which help in finding partners, provide advisory support and promote the interests of Russian companies.
Georgy Gevorkyan, Deputy General Director for Export Development of Medical Technologies (TCG-MTL OOO), spoke about localisation and launch of joint ventures in foreign countries, in particular about the opening of an enterprise in Uzbekistan to produce medical equipment.
Ilnur Nizamiyev, Head of Foreign Economic Activity and Export Projects Department, gave examples of Eidos-Medicine unique product development and production of high-tech medical simulators under MedVision brand and Russian medical equipment manufacturer's entry to Middle East and East Asia markets.
The REC representative in the Republic of Belarus Viktor Doronkevich and Director of the Rosatom State Corporation Country Office in the Republic of Belarus - Rusatom Bel Stanislav Levitsky introduced the modernisation programme of the Belarusian health care system, spoke about possibilities for Russian companies manufacturing medical equipment to enter the Belarusian market and about participation in investment projects supported by the REC.
