subscribe to news The session of the SCO Business Forum «New Challenges for the Convention and Exhibition Industry in the Pandemic» took place

In the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Business Forum, held by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the SCO National Business Council Sergey Katyrin, a specialised panel session was organised with the participation of chambers of commerce, leading industry associations and exhibition organisers of the SCO countries. The session was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO, the leading organiser of international exhibitions in Russia and Eastern Europe.

This event, which was held in the format of a videoconference with speakers from China, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, provided an effective and relevant business dialogue on special measures and ensuring sustainable development of exhibition, fair and convention activities in the SCO countries in conditions of the spread of a new coronavirus infection.

The session was attended by Director of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee on Exhibition, Fair and Convention Activities Sergey Selivanov, First Deputy General Director of EXPOCENTRE AO Nikolay Gusev, President of the Indian Exhibition Industry Association S. Balasubramanian Pillai, Representative of the Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan Elnar Sapahuly Duysenov, Deputy General Manager of Meorient Trade & Exhibition Wang Binwen, Chairman of Pakistan-Turkey Joint Business Council of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan Amjad Rafi, First Vice-President of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs Sergey Alexeev, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan Odil Sangov and Director of "UzExpoCenter" Sanzhar Kudratov.

The speakers’ reports were devoted to the new challenges facing the exhibition and congress industry in different SCO countries, its macroeconomic importance, ensuring its sustainable development, as well as the prospects for recovery and growth of the industry.

The reports and discussion at the session covered the tasks and problems relevant for the chambers of commerce, industry associations and professional exhibition organisers, including the list of demanded state support measures, digitalization of exhibition events, the prospects of holding events online, and allowed to develop practical recommendations for the industry players.
