On April 28, the Organising Committee of Neftegaz and National Oil & Gas Forum held the first online event.

The webinar “Analysis and future tendencies of oil and gas markets” was attended by more than 150 representatives of key industry companies, relevant regulatory bodies and leading expert organisations. The discussion consisted of two thematic blocks devoted to the current issues of oil and gas market.

Dmitry Kurochkin, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who took part in the webinar, spoke about the work of the professional Committee on Energy Strategy and Fuel and Energy Complex Development. He informed about packages of measures prepared for the anti-crisis plan of the government, which include proposals to assist enterprises to restore their operations after the lifting of restrictive measures. The vice-president of the CCI of Russia also noted that the steps of complex support of the Fuel and Energy Complex are being worked out.

The discussion on the transformation of the oil market was moderated by Maxim Nechayev, Consulting Director at IHS Markit Russia. According to his forecasts, the coronavirus epidemic will result in the reduction of global consumption of oil and petroleum products by a record 10 million barrels per day in 2020. The main decline in demand is due to a drop in consumption of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel in the U.S., Europe and China, the expert said.

In the current situation all companies are optimistic about the prospects for the renewable energy sector, noted Denis Borisov, Director of the Moscow Oil and Gas Centre Ernst&Young.

Maria Belova, Research Director at Vygon Consulting, told about the role of the USA in further development of the hydrocarbon market. She paid special attention to the prospects of the oil shale sector under the adverse economic conditions.

Vyacheslav Mishchenko, Member of the Expert Council of the Russian Ministry of Energy, drew attention of the professional community to the fact that the existing pricing system has failed and the market with such a pricing has shown all the inconsistency of the paper equivalent to the real oil market.

This view was supported by Yaroslav Kabakov, Finam Strategy Director, who noted that the real oil market did not correlate in any way with exchange quotations. According to the expert, there are already some recovery trends in both the real oil market and the financial sector.

Oil service companies turned out to be the most sensitive to the crisis, said Vasily Chuboksarov, a specialist of the CKTR of the Russian Ministry of Energy. However, due to the introduction of new technologies this sector, in his opinion, can provide support to the whole industry.

Denis Borisov, Director of EY Moscow Oil and Gas Center, Anna Galtsova, Research Director of IHS Markit Russia, Andrey Gaidamaka, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Invest Group, and other experts took part in the discussion of gas market development prospects.

All participants in the webinar had the opportunity to comment and ask questions online.

"I believe, and this webinar showed that now - in a time of high volatility - the exchange of views and the opportunity to listen to the professional analysis of the current situation is very important for all participants in the oil and gas market. It is very important now to have a platform where one can exchange opinions on issues vital for the industry. And it's great that NNF.digital has become such a platform," said Alexey Shmakov, Key Account Director for Gazprom Neft, SIBUR, NOVATEK and Emerson LLC, to thank the organisers of the discussion.
