Today, at Expocentre Fairgrounds, the Elektro 2021 International Exhibition features the Engineer Day which unites the entire complex of import industry events.
A large professional audience was attracted by the technical session "Advanced Design Tools for Power Supply Systems". Sergey Smagin, an engineer of Power Industry Automation Unit at Siemens Company, introduced how his company designs power distribution systems - from network calculation to creation of virtual 3D BIM models of switchgear.
Evgeniy Lepeshkin, Marketing Director of CHINT, spoke about the new software for designers. Dmitriy Pasynkov, Director of Project Management Department of Fund Service, devoted his speech to the modern approach to calculation of operational parameters of high-voltage cable lines. The session participants also discussed methods of cable route organisation, automated design system for digital substations, and modern Russian information design technologies for power supply systems.
Another event, the Panel on Electric Installation: Choosing Optimal Configurations provided a comparative analysis of electrical installation and materials in Russia and the USA, labour resources, and other aspects of activities in the electricity sector, including the solar industry. The experts spoke about the peculiarities of organisation of low-current cable routes, methods and results of quality testing of electrical products, and other topics of practical importance for the development of the industry.
A technical session on basic electrical safety measures in electrical installations and a hands-on session “Calculation of Earthing and Lightning Protection for an Industrial Building” took place.
A special place in the Designer Day programme was taken by the panel on Training of Highly Skilled Workers: Demand on the Labour Market and the professional electrical installation competition, held under the auspices of the WorldSkills international movement. The electrical installation competence includes designing power supply systems, selecting and installing electrical equipment, operating and checking electrical installations, preparing report documentation, etc.
As the competition organisers pointed out, an electrician must work in accordance with current standards and in compliance with all health and safety regulations, and understand that any mistakes can be irreversible, costly and endanger those around them.
The competition assignment included fitting the power and lighting electrics and carrying out adjustments once the contestant had checked the installation. According to representatives of Worldskills Russia and the Elektro 2021 exhibition division, the competition served to popularise engineering and working professions in the electrical industry, develop professional communities, promote advanced training standards and improve skills.
