The 27th edition of the International Exhibition for Food, Beverages and Food Raw Materials, Prodexpo 2020, the largest in Russia and Eastern Europe, has opened at Expocentre Fairgrounds.

At the opening ceremony, Expocentre Director General Sergey Bednov expressed profound gratitude to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia for supporting the exhibition.

According to Mr. Bednov, the exhibition is growing from year to year, gaining momentum. This year, as many as 2,621 companies from 70 countries put on display their best food and beverages. The number of exhibitors has increased by 200 companies, compared to the previous year. The exhibition space and the products’ range have also grown. Many countries are attending the event for the first time. Thirty-one countries are presenting their national pavilions at Prodexpo 2020. This year’s premiere is the national pavilion of the Philippines. Companies from Venezuela and Uganda are taking part in the exhibition for the first time.

The number of Russian participants has also increased: a total of 1,850 Russian producers and suppliers of food and beverages are the event participants. The number of group stands of Russian regions has doubled at the exhibition. Regional group stands bring together companies from 47 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. For the first time, the showcases were made by 25 regions, such as the Samara and Perm oblasts, Krasnodar Krai, Adygea and others.

Sergey Bednov singled out the ProdexpoWine salon with companies from 38 countries participating as one of the largest and most interesting product sectors of the exhibition. According to him, the entry of Russian companies into foreign markets is today’s trend. “Over 500 companies from various Russian regions have put on display their export-oriented products at Prodexpo this year,” said Mr. Bednov.

President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin said at the opening ceremony that Prodexpo was an exhibition that was special not only in scale, but also in content. According to him, a significant step forward has been made in the exhibition development. Mr. Katyrin thanked the personnel of Expocentre for the great work done.

Prodexpo 2020 includes an extensive event programme, which focuses on the current issues of the Russian food market development. Large international industry forums, conferences, panels, workshops, presentations, and prestigious professional competitions will be held within the exhibition.

Vladimir Skvortsov, Deputy Director of the Agriculture Ministry’s Department of the Food and Processing Industry, read out a greeting message from Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev, who expressed confidence that the Prodexpo 2020 exhibition would give a new impetus to the development of high-quality food production, broadening the range of products, and the use of new advanced technologies.

Prodexpo 2020 participants, visitors and organisers were congratulated on the exhibition opening by Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Regional Policy and Problems of the North and the Far East Nikolay Kharitonov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management Sergey Lisovsky, Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valery Skrug, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Stavropol Krai Nikolay Velikdan, Agriculture and Food Minister of the Moscow Region Andrey Razin, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation Rushan Abbyasov, President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Platonov, Advisor to the Head of the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service Lyudmila Abramova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu, President of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency Sergio Ricardo Segovia Barbosa, and Director of the ICE Moscow Office Francesco Pensabene.

The exhibition opening ceremony was also attended by heads of diplomatic missions of Afghanistan, the Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Tunisia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, and other high-ranking guests.
