The first international forum on Aluminum in Architecture and Construction – AlumForum 2019 took place at Expocentre Fairgrounds within the Russian Construction Week and RosBuild 2019, a new international exhibition for building and finishing materials and technologies, aroused a keen interest among the professional community of construction and related sectors.

Prominent Russian and international experts, architectural firms, top aluminum industry companies, leading sectoral research and educational institutions, and relevant ministries tool part in the ambitious supporting program of the AlumForum.

The AlumForum participants have discussed a wide range of issues. Addressing the Forum, Viktor Evtukhov, the State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, emphasized that aluminum had many important properties that distinguished it from other materials. It is durable and light, corrosion-proof, etc., which makes aluminum very popular and widely used in construction engineering and many other sectors such as car manufacturing, aircraft engineering, shipbuilding, and electric power industry. Application of aluminum plays a key role in the implementation of national social projects related to construction of housing, school buildings, child daycare centres, sports centres, transport infrastructure, airport terminals, metro stations, and many other facilities.

Mr. Evtukhov also noted that despite the US sanctions against Russian companies, aluminum production in Russia had increased by the end of last year.

Nikolay Shumakov, President of the Union of Architects of Russia, agreed that anti-Russian sanctions had largely contributed to more active and widespread aluminum use, in particular, in construction.

In turn, Dmitry Volkov, Deputy Minister of Construction Industry, Housing and Utilities Sector of Russia, emphasized the present need to update the existing and spell out new technical standards of aluminum use. 

Then, the discussion participants discussed the implementation of national construction and infrastructure projects, global trends in aluminum use and Russian market prospects. They also reviewed the regional programs of aluminum alloy products application in housing and utilities, cultural, health care, and sports facilities, and discussed other problems of professional interest.
