The Annual Conference on Raw Materials, Equipment and Technologies for Fruit and Vegetable Processing has opened within the Agroprodmash 2020 supporting programme at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds. The event was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO jointly with Fruit News Portal.

Irina Koziy, Director General of Fruit News Portal, addressed the participants - representatives of branch unions and associations of horticultural products of Russia, producers and processors of agricultural products, suppliers of fruits and vegetables - with a welcoming speech. She thanked EXPOCENTRE for the opportunity to hold the conference within the exhibition and emphasized that the industry professionals missed the live communication, were happy to meet in the traditional format and share the news.

The Conference was opened by Evgeniy Andreyanov, Head of Potato, Vegetable and Fruit Production Division of the Plant Production, Mechanization, Chemistry and Plant Protection Department of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. He told about the situation at the market of industrial horticulture, outlined the current problems of the industry. According to him, today an unacceptably high level of dependence of farmers on imported planting material remains.

During the conference, an active discussion arose on the issue of subsidies in the regions for farmers to develop industrial horticulture. It was noted that often garden seedlings of domestic producers do not yield a good harvest, as opposed to seedlings produced in Europe. However, subsidies are allocated only to those agrarians who work with domestic material. One of the possible solutions to this issue, according to Evgeniy Andreyanov, may be an accelerated inclusion of any sort (including of European production) in the State Register.

Andrey Medvedev, Vice-President of the Association "Greenhouses of Russia" raised the issue of implementing a support system for domestic gardeners, whose harvest was severely damaged. In particular, they discussed harvest problems in Krasnodar, Stavropol Krai and Ingushetia.

Asparagus is a new trend in the development of industrial vegetable growing. What kind of crops does it belong to: fruit and berries or vegetables? The level of subsidies seriously depends on it. Tatiana Gubina, Head of the Potato Union apparatus, began her speech with this question. The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, answering a question about asparagus, said that on the one hand, there are huge costs for laying this crop, and on the other hand, according to agricultural producers, the marginality and demand for this crop is phenomenal. Therefore, it is worth thinking about the need to allocate subsidies in this direction.

Tatiana Gubina, speaking about the prospects of market development, also noted the emergence of new players and new directions, especially in the production of potato chips and fries. After the pandemic, she said, there is an increase in sales of packaged products, unlike sold by weight. The buyer wants to buy packaged goods and at the Agroprodmash exhibition you can find various solutions for packaging of products.

The changes in the registration of modern varieties of fruit and vegetables were discussed by Anna Chugunova, a representative of the State Commission of the Russian Federation for Selection Achievements Test and Protection (FSBI «Gossortcommission»).

The conference is running on September 6 and 7 in Pavilion No. 8 of EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds.
