The Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the Rosselkhoznadzor Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance and Agroexposervis held the International Conference on the State Regulations of Food Quality and Safety during Prodexpo 2018 at Expocentre Fairgorunds. The conference generated a lot of interest among industry professionals.  

 "The topic of the conference is very important for food manufacturers, all those engaged in food trade, and authorities which regulate food production and trade," said Assistant to the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Aleksey Alekseenko. According to him, the problem of food quality is systemic. That is why the approach to it must be systematic.  The system of certification control of every batch of food raw materials and food products will be adopted by July 2018. It will allow making the whole process more transparent. It will also eliminate situations when an enterprise purchases palm oil in large quantities but sells butter.   

The effective quality control will also contribute to sustainable domestic food production and consumption as well as expansion of export. "Today we export grains, poultry and high quality beef. Later on the export will increase and become more diverse," said Mr. Alekseenko.  

President of the National Union of Food Exporters Dmitry Bulatov said that the Union was working on different forms of promotion of Russian food in the foreign markets. One of the most interesting and promising ways to do it is to manufacture Russian food on the territory of other countries. There are already some offers regarding this idea, for instance, from the Union's partners in Portugal. "If we manufacture our products in Portugal, we can export it to other EU countries," said Mr. Bulatov.  

The conference participants discussed the export potential of several sectors of the Russian food industry and some categories of food products, the role of wholesale, and other issues.
