The discussion on if there is a need for personnel in the paint and coating industry? How and where to train industry professionals? took place within the conference programme of Interlakokraska 2024. The event was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO with the support of the Soyuzkraska Association.

Participants of the paint and coating industry and representatives of Russia’s specialised universities took part in a panel discussion to get closer to the solution of one of the most important issues for the industry at the moment. The audience was able to get an idea of the situation in the staffing of the paint and coating industry, learn the opinion of manufacturers and representatives of universities on this issue, as well as get acquainted with various methods in the organisation of personnel training for the paint and coating industry.

The event was moderated by Gennady Averyanov, Director of the Soyuzkraska Association. In his opening remarks, he gave a brief overview of the staffing situation and pointed out that the overall shortage of personnel in this country is about 5 million people. “That is why we decided to hold this panel today to share our opinion on the current situation, review a number of programmes on the part of education and training of future specialists for the paint and coating industry, and evaluate these programmes,” said Mr. Averyanov.

Natela Kobulashvili, President of the Association of Recruitment Consultants, presented the results of an anonymous survey of enterprises for 2023, which investigated the staffing situation in the Russian paint and coating industry. Based on it, it was concluded that staff shortage had been a serious problem of the industry for several years, but for the last two years it has been particularly acute, and in all areas of the economy and all regions of the Russian Federation.

Olga Semina, Head of the Centre for Management and Development of the Professionalitet Federal Project, made a detailed report of state training programme for the chemical industry and its important role in the industry as a whole.

The discussion was attended by the heads of industry enterprises and representatives of higher education institutions that train students majoring in paint and coating development and production.  They discussed the practice and prospects of attracting specialists to production, current problems of training applicants and interaction with industry enterprises, as well as proposed a number of measures to improve the situation with personnel in the paint and coating industry.
