A business breakfast took place at Expocentre with participation of renowned experts, representatives of relevant committees of the State Duma, ministries, industry associations, mass media representatives, organisers of RENWEX. Renewable Energy & Electric Vehicles, and Expocentre Director General Sergey Bednov. The main topic of discussion was Renewable Energy in Russia: Challenges, Trends, Priorities.

The event was moderated by member of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science, and chair of the organising committee of the NTI Expo project (Science – Technology – Innovations Expo) Vladimir Kononov, who opened the meeting and said that RENWEX and the accompanying forum on Renewable Energy for Regional Development alongside some other innovative events of Expocentre had been included in NTI Expo. “NTI Expo is the permanent technological platform aimed to facilitate national projects in the field of science, education, technology, education, digital economy, industry, transport infrastructure, and energy,” said Mr. Kononov.

According to Mr. Bednov, the second edition of the RENWEX exhibition and forum will be held on April 21–23. The very first exhibition, which took place last year, was quite successful. It engaged 63 companies from 8 countries, including 41 Russian companies, and had 3,500 visitors from 42 countries. The first RENWEX exhibition featured 13 events with more than 120 speakers and over 2,000 delegates. The exhibition was quite compact, but its event programme was very busy and interesting.

“Hence, there is hope that the exhibition we are organising together with the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the support of the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Association for Development of Renewable Energy, the European Association for Renewable Energies (Eurosolar), and the Solar Energy Association will be growing,” said the head of Expocentre. He also noted with the reference to available information that the number of RENWEX 2020 exhibitors will grow 30% with new participants. This evidences the relevance of the subject and project, Mr. Bednov said, noting that the future belongs to renewable energy.

Many meeting participants shared his view. For instance, Deputy Director of the Energy Ministry’s Department for the Development of Electric Power Industry Andrey Maximov said that the first stage of building the renewable energy sector in our country had been finalized. Plants have been built and commenced operation, and the first 5 GW of electricity will be generated by 2024.

Deputy Director of the Industry and Trade Ministry’s Department for Machine Tools and Investment Machine Building Yevgeny Muratov added that Russia had commissioned new production facilities and even started to export high-performance, competitive solar modules to the global market. He noted the importance of participation in RENWEX for the development of domestic companies operating in the field of renewable energy.

Member of the organizing committee and Eurosolar Russia Council for the Development of Renewable Energy Alexey Kaplun spoke about the program of the pending RENWEX Forum on Renewable Energy for Regional Development.

Expert of the Moscow Management School Skolkovo;s Energy Center Ekaterina Grushevenko spoke about the global market of electric vehicles and prospects for creating a similar market in Russia.
