A two-day Global Medical Tourism Summit opened today within the MedTravelExpo conference programme at Russian Health Care Week. It has become a major event in medical tourism. 

The summit is organised by the St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee, the Congress and Exhibition Bureau, the St. Petersburg Medical Tourism Agency with the support of the Association of Medical Tourism and Export of Medical Services, and EXPOCENTRE AO. 

Prominent experts from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, USA, China and other countries will discuss the development of the industry, as well as the prospects of the Russian Federation in the global medical and health tourism market. 

The summit opened with a plenary session dedicated to medical tourism market trends in the context of the constraints posed by the global Covid-19 pandemic, and taking into account opportunities in the tourism, health and wellness sector and medicine. 

Natalia Yudina, Director General of the St. Petersburg Medical Tourism Agency, noted that the MedTravelExpo exhibition held within Russian Health Care Week is an excellent platform for the Global Medical Tourism Summit. 

On behalf of EXPOCENTRE AO, First Deputy Director General Sergey Selivanov, who spoke at the meeting, warmly welcomed the participants to the summit. He said that the exhibitions included in Russian Health Care Week are very popular: in the previous day alone they were visited by more than 4,500 professionals, despite the fact that the events of the Week have been declared Covid-free with QR codes admission to them. 

The plenary meeting was followed by thematic sessions of the summit, which discussed strategies for Russia's entry into the global medical tourism market, technologies for medical tourism development, digital strategies for entering the market of medical organisations, branding of territories in medical tourism and other topical issues. 

The first day of the summit ended with an awards ceremony for market leaders - finalists of the Russian Medical Tourism Contest Med Travel Leaders.  

Today, MedTravelExpo hosted the 2^nd International Medical Tourism Workshop organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and the Association of Medical Tourism and Export of Medical Services. The event was held specifically for MedTravelExpo exhibitors with the participation of leading foreign and Russian medical tourism agencies interested in sending patients for diagnosis, treatment and recovery to Russian medical organisations.
